Do it, mate, if it gets the UK on side for quashing the EU ban, it must be a good thing. We should take a business trip to Sweden to take note of their industrial process, then bring snusmaking to the UK - start a whole line of brit-centric flavours: pub ale, marmite, steak and kidney, salt and vinegar...could be the start of something big. Headhunt a few of those flavours guys from Walkers and it'll be a winner
Genius! It's an untapped market. I wonder why no one has released a meat flavoured snus yet. We better delete this thread before swedish match see it.
Lamb vindaloo snus! Wonder what snus would taste like with a drop or two of Who Dares Burns or After Death sauce. Probably awful, but might be worth a try - it'd certainly bring the burn back...
Weirdly, I actually think marmite could work. I'd certainly buy some!

Heh, I think they're waay ahead of your collective fantasies with their hundreds of years' experience.
I wouldn't be surprised if snus with surströmming taste came and went ages ago.
however I think the burn is pretty apparent on loose as it is with portion.
I'm not sure if I'm using too much or what. It feels like I'm really doing a number on the pit of my upper lip. I put a large wad of roots loose in my lip today to get a good nicotine buzz...that certainly worked, but my lip was just exhausted after an hour of it in. It feels rather sore, rough and dry. The burn doesn't seem to get any less with any of the 4 brands I've tried so far
(probe, N&J, roots loose, goteborgs no2)
Maybe I need to stop being a nancy boy and realize the tissue just has to get 'broken in', but it certainly doesn't feel like it will happen soon. I try alternating sides to let the other recoup.
Is the burn always going to be as much as when starting out with snus as it is on a long time snus user, or does it wear off...mentally, physically or both?
Besides TSNA's, can't this abuse of the tissue itself be cancer causing or cause some type of permanent damage?

The evidence thusfar seems to suggest that it isn't, or at least that any effect it has is so small as to be difficult to measure. The burn comes from the alkalinity of the snus - baking soda is used to lower the pH and crash the nicotine out, which also makes it burn. Snus is known to cause "oral mucosal lesions", which basically means that the skin where you put the snus gets a bit tougher, drier, and leatherier, but that's about it. There are a few studies noting higher rates of gingival pockets, as well, but I think that properly looking after one's teeth is really the key there.
Is there any way to reduce the alkalinity or neutralize it? I'm thinking the main reason for lesions and soreness is because of the burn. It's really aggravating. I don't understand how you guys could possibly miss it.

Lower the ph, what for?
I'm not sure what you mean by "crash the nicotine out"
is the material the portions made out of have some type of abrasive effect on the tissue?
The pH is lowered to make it easier for the nicotine to be absorbed into your bloodstream, like freebasing coccaine (crack). If you raised it back up you would probably get little nicotine absorption at all, not to mention crap tasting snus.
As for the pouch material, I also found that it irritated my tender newbie gums (mine were REALLY sore when I started too, I feel your pain!), so I gave loose a try. I found loose to be much more comfortable, still burned a little but it feels much softer on the gum so it does not aggravate it further. The burning will practically stop after a while as your lips and gums get used to the snus. Try alternating sides to give them a chance to recover between prillas and drink lots of water to rinse the salt/soda out.
These days I get little more than a pleasant tingle when snussing.
