I wrote this elsewhere a while ago; the pouch material is the same stuff the cigarette filters are made of.
Still, as someone who graduated high school with a 9.4 for chemistry (out of 10), the stuff is made of "acetate" (that's all the text said). Acetate of what? No idea. AFAI can remember that's a polymer. ...Zero? (Think it's inert though)

The pouch material is the same stuff as teabags are made of, which I think is a natural cellulose fibre. Cellulose is often made artificially as a copolymer with acetate (transparent sheets, etc) so maybe that's where that association came from? Moisty basically nailed it on the alkalinity, at any rate - it has to be there or the nicotine doesn't work.

I don't understand how you guys could possibly miss it.
The burn goes away after a week or so, or at least it did for me.

I found loose to be much more comfortable, still burned a little but it feels much softer on the gum so it does not aggravate it further. The burning will practically stop after a while as your lips and gums get used to the snus. Try alternating sides to give them a chance to recover between prillas and drink lots of water to rinse the salt/soda out.
These days I get little more than a pleasant tingle when snussing.
        well I hope you're right...
so far it doesn't seem to be getting any better. in fact it feels i have the worst cankersores I've ever had on the left and right side of my upper jaw gums.
regarding my intial post in this thread, when I had that large wad of loose in, I did notice it was less abrasive and acute as far as burning than the portions are. However, I think I meant that the loose still burns quite a bit...the portions burn like mad.
I still wish I had something to blunt the burning feeling, and the sore feeling the rest of the day I'm not using it.

          Hi, RealmofOpeth,

just look at my first posting in this thread. For me, it wasn't much better. I put some of my first portions in the cheek or the lower lip, because of that burning. I don't miss it at all. Fortunately, it passed after a week. It certainly will work the same way for you.

          Cheers!

i started off using snus slowly so it was a while before it happened to me. after i had been using it for a couple months (maybe 1-2 times a day) i found some portions that i really liked a lot. i started using them almost all day long. after about three days i got a sore on my gum so bad i thought i was going to have to quit. for about three days when i used i used on a different side of my mouth. it went away. few days later it came back. i changed sides again, etc and it went away. i may be wrong but i think it's the portion bags as well as the snus. loose snus has never made a sore on me like those portions did.

I think it also depends on the kind. For some reason, Lucky Strike portions-white or regular- irritate my gums and irritate where I have minor gum recession (this was before SNUS, has nothing to do with it). So then I went back to General now and not having any problem really.

it was white portions that did it to me. i can't remember regular portions ever doing it.... at least not bad enough to stand out in my mind.

Weird...Been using General instead of Lucky Strike now and gums are not irritated. Hooray!
