First impressions of Snus, from a dipper

Ok so I'm sitting here with probably my 6th pris since noon. Right now it is probe whiskey los.

How I ordered: When I ordered last friday from buysnus I had no idea about brands. Only that there was los and portion. Since I am switching from dip I was really curious about portions but also wanted some los just in case. I ordered 5 los and 5 portion, each a different brand.

The first pris I put in was goteland(sp?) original los. I examined the prismaster and shoved some in there and packed it till juice came out. My first thought putting it in was WOW! this feels really good in my lip? It's cold, it's silky smooth, and it's not ripping up my lip! Swallowing was very easy to get used to, and I quite enjoy being able to REALLY taste it, rather than just spitting all the time.

But here is my first question, with the prismaster do you load the pris vertical? or do you hold it an an angle unloading it while moving the prismaster?

Anyways I have tried a couple portions and a couple los. So far I do think I like the goteland los the best, but the skruf sterk had a nice kick and a pleasant flavor. Overall I'm ecstatic with my purchase and can't wait to put another order in.

    Welcome to the forums :^)

Prismaster technique is personal preference. I don't care for it much, as the shape, and quantity is uncomfortable for me. Just try it a couple of different ways, and see which you like best.

Your description makes it sound like you loaded the Prismaster by hand. If so, I think you'll find it's easier to stab the Prismaster into the snus tin, and load it that way.

Welcome to SnusOn Griff! Good to have you on board. Like llxkllr says, you do stab the prismaster down into the snus. The PM is quite a good piece of kit for a beginner. Hope you enjoy your stay here

Yeah the first los I loaded by hand...kind of messy.

The second time I stabbed it and although unsure of quantity (did it go all the in the chamber? Did it get a little compacted already?) It worked quite wonderfully. And if it's personal preference, I think it's easier to go vertical when putting it in.

And when your done with los do you swallow the rest of it? Or spit it out? I've been spitting it out but it's so mild I have half a mind to swallow it.

You definitely do not swallow snus. You've been doing the right thing by spitting it out. I find that a quick rinse with water and a rub with my index finger on my gums gets all remnant snus out quite well.

I swallow the little bits that fall, but when I'm finished with it, I spit out the pris, and clean up the bits left by eating them :^D

              Welcome to Snuson GriffCo.

You could swallow it if you must, under Swedish law, snus is considered food and must be manufactured to food standards. And i have swallowed a few portions in my time with no ill effect. But normally, you spit it out. [/i]

I wish Thunder Wintergreen had been around when I first started.

This stuff is made (probably not literally) for someone accustomed to american wintergreen snuff. It's a lot like Griz wintergreen.

Did I mention it is also a fantastic snus?

You're in for a real treat! Thunder WG is simply superb; the best of both worlds.

Yeah I like Thunder WG, but I don't think it competes with the Offroad, which I find has a much cleaner taste. I reserve the Thunder for a high-nic-required moment. I find that with other Extra Sterks too, like with Oden's Kanel ES, the flavour of the original strength is compromised by whatever process is involved in getting it to high levels of nic. I just put in 2 portions of reg strength most of the time.

All this los talk has me wanting to order some right now. I've been on the fence with los because my work requires face time with clients pretty frequently, so the portions seem more practical for me. I've read many comments on how the los can taste differently than the portions, how true is this? Regardless, I'm ordering some Ettan los next order and a PM just to try it. I'm intrigued.....

With some more than others I would say. Ettan lös is miles better than the portion. Gotlands Yellow in lös vs. portion is more a case of you can use them back to back without feeling you are using the same snus - both are excellent. Try the GR in lös as well - infinitely superior to the white portions.

I tend to leave lös for the evenings as I also deal with clients all day long, but I know that some people feel comfortable enough with lös to use it at work...

I got tired of the Prismaster really quick as I can hardly close my mouth with the giant pillow sized pris. I sometimes use it to quickly measure out an amount and then finish baking by hand.

That's what I used to do; it's quite a hassle with the crumbly edges. The good thing is you get a very compact pris. Raddleman prescribes Icetools to all! I've started double barrelling 5ml on 2 clicks  .
