    Long time lurker...first time posting.

I've been reading this forum every night for a month. That is the same amount of time I have been off the smokes. My story is the same as a lot of you. Smoked for 20 years...heard about snus on the internet. Tried the Camel first...could see that it would work...ordered the real stuff and have been loving it. I'm gonna try to sum up all my thoughts here so hopefully this isn't too long winded. I still haven't found an absolute favorite snus yet. Right now Göteborgs Rapé #2 is right up there. I hate to say it but I am diggin the Nick & Johnny West...sad that it is getting discontinued. The only snus I just can't stand to this point is Jakobssons Icefruit. The nasty chemical slime in the back of my throat did taste similar to the stuff the dentist uses. I had one bad day there in the beginning....4 days into quitting cigarettes. There is a thread on here titled "I shit my pants today". My experience was similar but I always made it to the bathroom. All good since then. I actually wasn't looking to quit smoking...I was trying something new and quitting was Effortless!!!
I have been trying to convert every smoker I know...so far I have only converted one. I am giving up on that adventure. I can't help but think how easy it was for me and could be for others if they would only give it a try.
I found General at a local shop today. $2.80. I was pleasantly surprised. They also had Skoal brand snus. I bought a can to see what it was like....worse than Camel. I cut open one of the portions to see what was inside. It looked like gun powder....very weird.
I sent my thrid order to Northerner two nights ago. It took me all night....lol. I was reading reviews here for every brand they carry and then ordering according to the consensus. Sagedil's review of Pall Mall got me to order 4 cans. I will have about 40 cans in all when my order arrives. I am planning on stocking up....it would really suck if they ban internet sales of tobacco.
This forum is great and I plan to start contributing. Thanks fellas!!

    Welcome Yamaha760,

I'm glad you finally decided to join in the fun. truly an amazing group of folks here.

I long ago gave up converting folks. I have exposed a few, and what they do with it is their business. Like you, I wasn't trying to quit cigarettes, it just happened.

    And again, welcome

And if you do like the Pall mall, two other favorites of mine are Retro White and Lucky Strike White, I prefer both of those to their regular cousins.

      Welcome Yamaha...

My story's similar to yours. I tried Camel snus for the experience, liked it, and found I wasn't smoking so much. I didn't have the desire to quit, but I figured What the hell... If it's this easy, I might as well give it a go. Now, I very seldom have a cigarette; Probably once per week average, and I'm cool with that. I didn't have to completely give up cigarettes, and if I smoke 1 it doesn't get me smoking 20 more like it used to :^)

I didn't know you still had the occasional cigarette. we are so similar, except mine is more like one every 2 or 3 weeks.

I love cigarettes, really all forms of tobacco. It always amazes me, the people that say they thought cigarettes tasted like crap at first. I've always loved the taste, and it was probably a year after I started smoking before I even inhaled(starting that was bad decision on my part).

Now I can have the enjoyment, without the compulsion, and much reduced health damage. If it hurts me some, that's cool. I'm sure 1 cigarette per week is still much better than the 30 or so per day I used to smoke :^)

I would have to break down and buy cigarettes. I have wanted to smoke since quitting....but I am sure we all have. They are always fleeting thoughts....I know I am not craving nicotine...so it's a mental thing. This summer will be the test for me...weekends on the water with a cold beer in my hand. But I know that even if I smoke, I will never go back to what it used to be.

Give yourself some time Yamaha. But soon, the snus will so take you over that you really are freed to smoke those few times it's what you want to do. I have posted many times her....now I smoke occasionally because it is what I want, not what I need.

That is a huge difference. And snus frees me up to approach them in a such different light. Over the last 9 months, I have bought a few packs, but always when I am on my motorcycle for an 8 hour plus ride. Something about cigarettes and biking, I still can't quite break the connection. Although snus and riding is one of my greatest joys as now I can gte my nicotine while I ride.

But I too love just about all tobacco. I started using snuff a few months ago, and am almost as compulsive about that as I am snus now. I just got some more today, so now have close to 20 different snuffs lining my desk. And I also just started smoking a hookah and I might do that every day except it is way too expensive for that. So that will just be a couple times a month indulgence.

But as for smoking. The biggest difference. One cigarette no longer means I will have another

I actually just picked up two cans of camel frost yesterday, so far I really like the buttery taste after the initial surge of swetness.

I have alot of questions, and I'm trying to find out everything I can.

I have just a couple questions, where should I shop for the real snus, and I like spice, not really sweetness, what's a good spicey snus?

                any recommendations?

My background, I tried my first cig when I was 12 and was regularly smoking by 16, I started dipping when I was 18, and started chewing levi garret / beachnut when I was in my early 20s, I'm now 26 and looking for something better.

Years ago I saw a show about snus and was intrigued, now I'm interested in what some good beginner snus is.

                  Welcome to Snuson Skimo.

General Oynx is a must try. But my best suggestion for you is to just get a try out box, try a bunch of different tings cause with Swedish snus, more than other stuff, you never know for sure what you will actually like. Buysnus.com and Northerner.com boh sell try out setups. Once you have tried some, come back here and tell us what you liked, what you didn't like, and we can guide you better with that information.

And I started smoking when I was 9. I always like to say I really was too stupid to know what I was getting myself into.

Again, welcome to the wonderful world of snus

One more thing. Although I have mostly used Buysnus over two years, recently, Northerner's prices have become significantly cheaper. Plus they have a great bonus program. But both are mostly well loved by folks here.

Northerer sells a "Try Out"box of 8 cans of both portions and los for $20.48. If you just want portions, their "Top 10" box is great, you get 10 different tins for $24.21.

And if you want free and live in a state that allows it, you can get a small little sample box, like 12 portions in all from General....http://www.generalsnus.com/

But go for one of the try out boxes, it is a great way to start sampling what Swedish snus is. and from there, we can guide ou better as to what you might like.

Buysnus also has a nicely priced mystery roll, haven't ordered from them lately, but the ones I got were always a nice mix of low, mid and "regular" (for lack of a better word) snus types. Totalled a couple rolls up, generally about $29-30 dollars worth for $22-23 (buysnus prices). If you really don't know what to try, this is a good way to get your feet wet.
But, if you want to pick and choose by single can, Northerner wins out with their pricing.

Welcome to the forum, Yamaha760 and Skimo. Sagedil is right, the tryout boxes are a great idea. But I wouldn't advise just getting the Swedish Match box, you are limiting the scope of your first collection. That's the mistake I made, and had to order a second time to find some of my first favourites. Definitely go with Northerner's top ten, I would say. You guys planning on trying los?
