    V2 Test Review - Spekulatius

Spekulatius - Huh? What the hell is this stuff? Opening the can the portion bags are colored like Guldens Brown Mustard (not a bad thing). It smells kind of sweet. Pop it in - it's wet but not nearly so much as some of the other new ones. And the taste... starts off with a hint of... sour. Just a hint, really not that much at all.

Yet, I'd consider this a sweet portion, but Swedish snus sweet which is to say that it's not really sweet but it's not, not sweet - if you can follow that. So ultimately I'd say... It is sweet!

This has an interesting flavor to it. it's different and almost difficult to pinpoint (and maybe I'm getting it wrong - so I'd love to hear what some of the other testers have to say about this one). I'm guessing like... Amaretto, almond, with maybe a hint of cinnamon - yeah that's it. That's my take on it.

No salt here and not a lot of tobacco taste. Just a non-sweet, almond, cinnamon something. There's a background smokiness to it that's pretty nice also.

Well... this is after two trials of it in two days. I don't know if it's Spektacular or Spekcial but it is...

It's a cookie, goes by a couple of different spellings. Spices used in speculaas are cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom and white pepper. Most Speculaas versions are made from white flour, brown sugar, butter and spices. Some varieties use some almond flour and have slivered almonds embedded in the bottom. Belgian varieties use no or less of the spices and are sold as speculoos.

Well, that's why I said "Spekulatius - Huh? What the hell is this stuff?"

...and now I know. Thanks to you! 'cause your the Sage, and that was a dilly of an answer.

I stand by my review though whatever else is in it. Good stuff. Yum.

I just looked it up a few days ago cause Patrick never explained it in his e-mail. I think this will be the one I test tonight.

Spekulatius is my favorite christmas-delicacy, but I wonder how to make a snus-flavoring out of it.

Anyway, I guess it can hardly be worse than the abomination which V2 sold last year as "Nordströmmen Julesnus".

              Cheers!

2 portions into this one and I need more. This is a very complex snus. I am still trying to figure out the flavors. I think I like it.

OMG Buddy, I am so sorry. I think the rest of us need to make sure we save at least one flavor so you can review first. Any preferences from what is left??

I think we're down to Dark Vanilla. I have no problem waiting for Mr. X to try it first.

                        Back to this review.
It is quite complex and took me several portions, and my wife's opinion, to nail it down. Cinnamon sugar cookies, mixed with salted almonds. I know it doesn't sound to good, but it really is. Sweet and salty, almost a perfect combination of the two. This may be the ultimate dessert snus. Not an all day thing, but one or two a day would be doable.

                        Edited to make more sense.

I agree with you about the Julessnus, that was a real let down. This is nothing like that, not at all. This is very good.

Thanks, RobME! I'll try it once it's sold. I assume it's something in the direction of Grov Svart only not as intrusive ... which really would be a good thing.

                            Cheers!

Well, just spent the day with Spekulatius and it's pretty good. The taste reminds me of Pfeffernüsse cookies!

The really suprising thing is that it also tastes like Gotlandssnus Julesnus minus the Glogg flavor.

Since I used the Spekulatius right after Sweet Clove, I thought maybe the flavors had somehow mixed so, I went all day yesterday using Onyx. Just to clear Sweet Clove's flavor out.

I really like this flavor and hope Patrick picks this one to stay!
