You know what, this got me thinking.

Years ago, I was fairly active at the alt.smokers.pipes Usenet group. We maintained a program that we called 'Pay It Forward'.

Basically, how it worked is that we had a fellow in Arizona who agreed to handle the storage and logistics. Members of the group would send tobacco, used pipes and supplies to him to be used for the program. Sometimes, they'd also send small cash donations to handle the cost of postage and shipping supplies.

The program was there for people who, for any reason, could not quite afford good tobacco and/or pipe supplies. They could get in touch with Our Guy in Arizona, and he'd put together a care package for them and send it off.

Completely confidential, no questions asked, and no payment required; we did this completely on the Honor System. If you conned us, then you conned us, and you could rest safe in the knowledge that only you knew that you were a turd.

Maybe something like this would work out here. The one big difference is that good pipe tobacco tends to improve with time, if properly stored. Snus generally doesn't.

But, something to think about nonetheless.

Maybe we should make Xobe our snuson humanitarian of the year. Beneath the beard there is a great man.

You see when I read something like this it renews my faith in humanity.

I know in tough times any small gesture means so much.

A big gesture can make the difference for the person on the receiving end. (Especially for a mildly brain damaged guy with a bum knee.)

                  Xobe has inspired me.

xobe saved my ass too, along with ix. and cemented me as a snus-user for the foreseeable future.

I think the snus-kitchen is a great idea, to help the needy. honestly. Like sage says, life it too short to use bad snus, so there's no reason not to give snuses you don't like away. The snus exchange is great, but you still have to give some to get some. I think giving to this board regularly should be good enough credit to get a care package in a time of need.

also, though snus does "expire" I use expired snus regularly, and if it was kept sealed and frozen there is no huge difference.

and to get pragmatic, we'd just need a trustworthy fella who'd be glad to do the work, who owns some freezer space. the people who have some snus they won't use(or don't care to) could donate snus, others could donate small sums of money for shipping, and it's up and running!

also, good luck texasmade. You've been a hilarious addition to this board and I wish you many years of more prosperous nic-hits

                            Yeah,

About that. I do not want gestures of good will to turn into a job. Great Idea, yes... But I like givesnus.com as a better, less involved means to do the same thing.

Great Job Mr. X. whats givesnus? When did this happen?
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.
