I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!I cannot believe I never heard of SNUS

I recently learned about SNUS while cruising the web. I live in California, USA, and have always dipped US smokeless products like skoal and copenhagen. I like them but I wanted something new. I found the northerner site and ordered their sample package, I just got it last night, OMFG this is what I have been waiting for. I cannot believe they even sell American dip here and yet NO SNUS! I love this stuff, so many flavors, no spitting, maybe even whitening teeth???

Its amazing, its like I my eyes have been opened to a whole new world!

I have only tried general portions, OOMPH citrus/menthol minis and Dry Catch eucalyptus portions, i havnt had a chance to try Loose yet. I dont have a portioner, can I still use Loose? And how?
Also, is the prismaster the same as the icetool as far as performance, there is a huge price difference!

THANK YOU SWEDEN FOR SNUSS! I will never dip American smokeless again.

Any suggestion for flavors for a beginner who used to use American dip?

You can use loose without a portioner, its called 'hand baking', theres a good instructional video posted here somewhere...
As for Icetool vs Prismaster: I'd compare it to Zippo lighter vs Bic disposable lighter. As a smoker I lost at least a dozen Zippos, so I'm a little wary to get an Icetool. If i lose one Im out $40, lose a Prismaster and Im out $2.
Oh and by the way, welcome!

      Welcome to Snuson sgreger1

LOL, I remember when I first stumbled upon snus as well. It was as if I had finally discovered the holy grail. Still say it is the best discovery I ever made on the net.

A prismaster will work fine, until you know that los is for you. Then you will find an icetool is just a zillion times cooler and makes a much better pris, or so the wise ones always say. But decide if you even like los before you make that plunge.

Keep telling us what you are liking and we can recommend more for you to try.

Welcome to the world of snus!

Glad you've tried General and a couple others. General is the top selling snus in Sweden.

Dude, try a couple cans of loose. The hand-baking video is stickied under "Snus Tips and Tricks" forum. The guy takes longer than anyone would realistically need to, but it does a great job illustrating the technique.

Icetool rocks, but it's good to know how to handbake too.

        Snus on!

          Welcome aboard!

I might suggest taking a look at this thread first about dip->snus converts:

          http://www.snuson.com/viewtopic.php?t=4014

Loose snus has about the same consistency of Copenhagen snuff, if not finer. It reminds me a lot of the consistency of dirt. You do not need a special tool, all you need to do is learn how to "hand bake". Take a look here: http://www.snuson.com/viewtopic.php?t=677

I highly recommend only using loose in the upper lip, usually right in front to the left/right of the little flap. If you put it in the lower lip, or too far in the back in the upper, this will trigger your glands to salivate turning it into what we refer to as a "mudslide" in the mouth. You can use portions wherever feels comfortable.

Snus is very different from the flavored American dips in that it doesn't really contain any sugar. There aren't many really really sweet snus flavors out there that you can compare to dip such as Skoal Peach or Skoal Berry, however, some of the wintergreen stuff I've heard is pretty darn close such as Offroad Wintergreen. I myself am a fan of straight tobacco taste. If you like Copenhagen you will probably love Grovsnus. Grov is probably my favorite in both portions and loose.

And just so you know, you don't have to throw dip out entirely if you don't want to While the can DOES say "Smokeless tobacco is not a safe alternative to cigarettes," it IS a MUCH SAFER alternative.

Welcome, mate! Nice to see another who enjoys snus.

You don't need a tool to use los, but it is nice to have. I have a prismaster that does the job just fine, and am saving for an icetool unless I can commission a custom made one for a similar price. But handbaking is quite effective with most coarse and medium ground los snuses. I suggest getting a prismaster and a couple cans of los to see if you like it first before going all out with los and an Icetool.

What are your tastes? There are plenty flavored and nonflavored snuses. Here are some portioned nonflavored snuses I enjoy:
            Ettan
            Grov
            Retro white
            Lucky Strike white

            Flavored portions:
            Catch Eucalyptus
Mocca Anis (like pure dark licorice)

            Nonflavored los:
            Ettan
            Grov
            Prima Fint

            Flavored los:
            Roda Lacket (fruity)

There's a bunch of other stuff that's due to come out too. Sage, Xobe, and a couple others got to test them out and they sound delicious.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

I like a little bit of flavor which is why I liked the OOMP citrus/menthol one, but I also enjoy a earthy tobacco taste like the general had. Flavors are good but tobacco has a good flavor in and of itself. Oh and i am not a liquorice fan so anyone who knows the names of the liquorice flavored ones let me know so I dont buy them.
The fact that I dont know what the words on half the containers are makes it even more exotic lol.

Im just pissed ti took so long to get here, it took almost 2 weeks with the routine delivery option. Better order some more now.

I can't wait to go home and bake up some Los to see if its everything eevryone is cracking it up to be! As a seasoned american dipper I will probably enjoy the Los better because pouches/portions never do the trick quite as well. its like suckin on a T bag lol.

Welcome to forum. I'd maybe recommend not going with the Prismaster as it makes a gigantic pillow-shaped pris. Lots like them but I can't seem to shut my mouth and get mudslides. You can easily get away with making a ball-shaped pris that will be easy and will hold together fine. After you have that down start making it into more of a rugby ball shape. In no time you will be busting out beautiful cylinder shaped masterpieces.

Skruf is high quality snus, and I use their original, stark, and cranberry portions.

I personally cannot use loose (I find it yucky), and you may feel the same way if you used pouched tobacco before. However, if you used loose American dip, you may be right at home with loose snus. The only thing is that it takes more time to get used to holding it together, since it is much more finely ground than American dip.

Did you ever enjoy Wintergreen dip? If so, you have to check out General Wintergreen. I suggest getting it from getsnus.com, because I believe it is a flavor made just for America and getsnus is located here in the USA. I have not seen it on any Swedish shop sites. I am currently waiting on a shipment right now of it, and cannot wait ever since I got to try it in one of those sampler packs that General put out. Welcome to snussing and snuson.com!
