Lös is such a different experience.

Just got my cans of Ettan Lös and, so far, using it is much more pleasant than I thought it would be. First off I'm getting little to no mudslide after 45 minutes of using it (just have to keep my tongue under control). The full flavor is still there compared to the portions. The flavor is milder compared to the portions but that could be because portions are overflavored to compensate for the bag. I'm also surprised by the nic hit. I felt it almost right away compared to the very gradual release by portions. Is it because the snus is raw or the amount of lös I'm using is more than the measured amount in portions? IDK. Also the feeling of indigestion that I would sometimes get from portions is non-existent from lös. I always suspected it was the pepper. This stuff is wonderful and I may never touch portions again, except for the cans in my fridge.

Welcome to the fold! Product for product, I enjoy los much more than the same brand/type of portion for most of the reasons you list. Many portions seem to be much harsher than their los counterparts. I've also been getting some heartburn with certain portions lately and don't seem to have any issues with los.

I started snusing with portions about 6 weeks ago. I held back from trying lös cos I was such a baby. Then 2 weeks ago got some General, Röda, Skruf stark and Offroad liquorice lös. I'm leaning towards Skruf as my fav then General. WOW, the flavour is totally less harsh than the portions and the feel in the mouth is great. Now I can keep a pris in for at least 2hrs without getting mud mouth. I swipe the pris lightly from the corner of my mouth to the front with my tongue. Sometimes I leave it in longer even tho' the flavour has mostly gone but still (plenty of flavour left inside the pris) then the pris sort of solidifes more. Lös just feels comforting somehow in a way portions dont. Even getting comfortable using lös in public.

Hardly touched the portions for 2 weeks now. I'm now a confirmed löser

Welcome to the wonderful world of loose snus, PassedPawn!

Now here's the question... are you going to stick with handbaking/pinching or go with an Icetool or Prismaster?

My first lös was Ettan, and I was underwhelmed at the time. I had a hard time tasting it, so I was pretty much done with it, and figured I'd only use portions. I later got some Landströms, just because I wanted the tin for my collection. It had a huge flavor, and even though it was a major PITA to use, I was in love.

I started getting some other lös types, and found that in some cases, the flavor was vastly different from the portion counterpart. I also enjoyed the mouth feel more, and I get more uses out of a tin of lös than I do portions.

I probably use 90% lös now, but I still enjoy the portions. Gotland is a good example. The Gul portions have more of a distinct evergreen flavor, while the lös favors the citrus notes. Both are very good, but quite different. Additionally, sometimes a portion is what I really want. I like being able to manhandle the portion without leaving a mess in my mouth. Also, a portion just seems right for a particular mood. If I were forced to take one or the other though, the portions would go without a second of thought. I prefer lös by a significant margin.

Thanks for the welcome to loose snus everybody

Currently I'm using a Prismaster and it works very well for me, especially at the price. I tried hand baking based on the video that's stickied here and I think it's safe for me to say that I totally suck at it. Plus I made it too damn big.

Totally, it's almost like a completely different make taste wise. I also love the feel of a full can of lös.

You'll get better at handbaking. You just have to keep at it. The first time I used loose was also with Ettan, but I didn't have a portioning tool so I had to bake it. It took me a few attempts to get the right size and the right shape, but once I got it down it was easy.

For now though, since you've got a Prismaster, just sit back and enjoy the stuff. Skills will come with time and practice.

I'm finding myself becoming a total lös junky. Clean pris removal and handbaking are still huge obstacles for me, but I just use a toothbrush if necessary and a prismaster every time. I'm finding that portions aren't doing it for me like they used to -- at work I miss my lös!

As for the lower flavor impact, and this has been posted by others (not my idea by any means), puff your upper lip out so the pris pulls away from your gums for a sec, and for whatever reason you get a great hit of flavor every time. I find myself doing this constantly.

Also on the topic of lower flavor impact, the more and more comfortable you get with using loose snus, the less compression you'll feel inclined to use while forming your pris. The less tightly formed the pris is, the more flavor you'll get.

I've been using loose on a fairly consistent basis for about a year and a half and I find it far more flavorful than portions.

When I keep the loose snus fairly loose but not runny, I can taste the full flavor a good 2+ hours in. Actually if the prilla is too tight it's pretty uncomfortable for my gums, so I keep it just on the verge of mudslide.

Used portions for about a year and just recently bought a IceTool and revisited loose.

There is something very settling doing things the "old school" way.
I think I can commit to the loose now.
