I almost think they are making the product to combat the increase in the image of snus in the U.S. market which is driving their sales down. I know more then a few people who have heard of snus bought the crappy american products out of curiousity or free coupons and hated the stuff.
The person does have a point. Cigarette sales are dropping and snus sales rising in the US. Maybe the American companies are making their snus so sweet that it wouldn't appeal to the average smoker? Therefore retaining them as smokers.
I think the drawback to this plan is when the people who try the American brands do a search on the internet, there is always someone to refer them to Swedish snus.
Of course, this is just speculation. It could also be possible that the American companies market the sweeter snus due to the obesity average in the US. Sweeter product > reminds user of food.
I think camel is a bit messed up though. They so obviously market their products to teens. I mean camel snus frost tastes exactly like spearmint gum....and those camel crush cigarettes. Come on....no one over the age of 20 would smoke those, except to try them out. They market tobacco like its candy. Kind of BS if you ask me.
Well then you have to say the same thing about Thunder and General then.
k, as i'm the noob, and this camel stuff is all i know of it, i'll throw in my 2 cents.
i'll start by saying i really like this snus product, and i'm glad that reynolds turned me on to it. that said -
mellow - this is the first snus i ever had in my life (days ago) and it opened my eyes to this stuff. all i had to compare it to was the likes of copenhagen, and this is a whole different ball of wax. my friends say it smells and tastes like dreamsicle ice cream. hey, i've never had that ice cream, but this is texas and i'm from california. to me it is scrumptious, almost a creamy flavor. i know everyone is saying it's too sweet, but i have nothing to compare it to save...
frost - this is like some kind of spearmint gum or something. it gives a blast at the start, but it's legs fade, to me, much quicker than the mellow.
i have samples en route from general, the real stuff. christ, this is dumb to say, but i can hardly wait until they get here.
as a postscript, i gotta thank reynolds for putting this stuff out over here. i would have never known otherwise, and snus is yummalicious. coming from a 38 year ex-chainsmoker, this stuff is the way to slide out of that.
