    new name for snus

the way snus if pronounced, will never take off in north america. noone understands it, or wants to know more about a thing with a silly name like snoose. The name alone has probably kept people from trying our smokeless product. It needs a new name, any suggestions?

Begh, the word snuff has beeing growing a really bad reputation. I think, generally, snuff is considered unhealthy and discusting.

Honest, I dont know anyone, except in my snus circle, that pronouncesit as " snoose ". They Pronounce it " Snuh-s "

Why not just let Americans call it that.

I mean if you try to get a slick name for it wouldnt that only draw more rediculous attention and unwanted bad press?

I think Snus just fits fine.

        Exotic & pretty unknown.

snus is a perfectly fine name and there's evidence it is taking off in north america.

people already think americans are xenophobic, let's not prove them right

I learned that "Skruf" is correctly pronounced "Stoof," I don't think names will matter at all in the US. It's a product with a foreign origin and name, call it what it is; mispronunciations expected and acceptable.

Yup, like calling Skruf... Stoof. That's just wrong. But who gives a shit? Certainly not I. It's really pronounced like Screwf. But forget that I said that that. I'm not trying to correct you. I couldn't care less how you say it. I don't even buy the shit anymore (actually I did like Skruf strong a lot), it's pretty good. Snus by any other name is still snoose. Some will buy it and most won't, and it'll still survive all of us.

Skruf is pronounced "scroof". Rhyming with "roof".

Snus sounds silly. I only use the word snus on this site. If people ask me what I'm using, I say Swedish moist snuff, which is what it is called in a lot of the academic papers on harm reduction.

But there are other possible names, but I think the most informative ones should use Swedish or Scandinavian as an optional add-on.

                          (Swedish/Scandinavian) tobacco
                          (S/S) smokeless
                          (S/S) salty tobacco
                          (S/S) steam tobacco

Actually, why not use the word "steam," since it is steam-cured:

                          I don't smoke or dip; I steam.

What are you doing? I'm steaming (this might be a difficult one)

                          I'm a steamer

Where did you get to know that steamy steamer?

Salvation is what I'd call it.
