Thanx! Something bizarre happened today. I woke up, got some coffee brewing, made me some grub, sit behind my comp to sift the junkmail, start surfing a little, badabing badabang, suddenly I click through a Dutch carblog to a Dutch conservative website that had an article against yet more taxation of gas and cars and on their front page they had a link to a Ron Paul YouTube clip.

Somehow, before I knew it, I just spent my ENTIRE SATURDAY reading about Ron Paul and watching vids and interiews.

Holy **** dude, I didn't know just how bad the US economy REALLY is. It's friggin' two minutes to midnight and no one seems to care!!

^ every time I try to point this out to people, I'm lynched as some sort of "lunatic weirdo" with crazy ideas about things (hence the tin-foil hat). You've hit the tip of the iceberg, Craig - the world is seriously screwed. This is why Iraq is such a nightmare. It seems like a totally stupid war and one wonders why the US keeps at it so stubbornly, but oil is the foundation of the economy and what seems to be going on in the middle east could be the beginning of a long run of resource wars. The US is basically bankrupt and the US dollar is essentially insolvent - if they can control Middle east oil and gas then they can carry on floating the dollar on the back of that resource, but if they can't then they have nothing and their dollar becomes worthless, the economy sinks into depression and everything around the world feels the shock. A far less honourable motive for war, but nevertheless a warning sign - an act of desperation at the highest echelons of power in the world

This is a great docu-comedy sketch about the history of oil - it makes politics a bit more accessible

what's worse is that he's being heavily marginalized in the debates and by the rest of the media. the only focus is on billary, obomba, ghouliani, romney, etc.

I highly doubt Paul will make it. But if the wave on the internet is strong enough, it might topple the deathgrip that the corporate whores have on the situation.

          Argh!!
I just tried watching this but alas, brit humor is just not for me. I'd rather be tied down to an uncomfortable chair watching Woody Allen movies.
Not trying to offend anybody but not only do I not understand half of what he's uttering but his monologue comes across as more matter-of-fact than humorous. But that's me, I grew up with american TV.

On another note, the news this week, that the USA is drawing up plans to attack Iran reminded me of the BBC movie "Threads". If this movie doesn't scare the living daylights out of you all, nothing will! No gore/horror/slasher/terror movie even comes close to this tale of fact-based reality.

i just checked out that movie....and dayamn! talk about one of the most miserable/hopeless/saddening and gritty movies I've ever seen! I'm just glad I didn't see this when the M.A.D. was at it's most likely. I'm also glad it's not much at all likely regardless in the hands of the power elite as they wouldn't gain anything from doing such a thing. They would only do it about halfway. perhaps the movie was halfway. but I believe if anything like that were to happen (depopulation) it will probably be in the form of a bio attack so that it doesn't ruin the Earth for millions of years. but who knows with religious terrorists (whether they be christian fundies in the pentagon/white house or islam extremists in a cave)...

                Glad you -uhm..."liked" it.
I think the only way something like "Threads" would happen must involve the two largest nuclear arsenals in the world.
Now, I was thinking, suppose the USA would use a limited amount on Iran....wouldn't that spook Russia enough (which is next door) that it in turn would retaliate? Russia would be thinking "I don't know where those nuclear-tipped Tomahawks or ICBMs are destined for impact. They might as well be destined for me under the "Iran" cover but conveniently overshoot its targets due to a computer error."
This limited exchange would in turn involve the rest of NATO within minutes, when the russian missiles appear on the horizon.

Thing is, you only get one chance in a nuclear exchange. And it's always "some or nothing" which is left.

I think it's plenty okay to be gung-ho and patriotic and pro-gun and pro-military but I also think that the people with the largest cojones and -above all- access to The ButtonĀ© should be required to watch "Threads" first.
