    General Wintergreen

Y'know, i think this stuff is really like General attempting to kind of copy Camel Snus. Its very sweet and heavily flavored, its completely unlike any other swedish made snus, let alone any other General.

When I first switched to snus, I liked General Wintergreen.

My sense of taste was dulled after 38 years of smoking. When you have limited sense of taste, wintergreen and sweetness work, and they also mask the saltiness most people complain about when they first start snusing. Where RJR fails miserably, Swedish Match did it right, they put enough nicotine in their product to make quiting cigarettes possible.

Now almost 6 months later, my sense of taste is developed and I don't even notice the salt in snus anymore. I no longer like General Wintergreen but it did serve it's purpose, it helped wean me off cigarettes until I developed a taste for "real" snus.

I've never dipped before but I also think GW would appeal to people who use overly sweet dip and want to transition to Swedish snus.

General Wintergreen is not a destination but it makes a great tool people can use to get them there. 8)

I'm a relatively new user of snus and I use General Wintergreen portions with regularity. I'm fortunate that the local tobacconist carries the General brand because I'm a broke college student who can't afford to order large varieties from the internet.

I absolutely love the stuff and seem to fly through these tins. I'm sure eventually I will grow sick of the flavor, but it has yet to happen. I love the burn and I love the taste.

For now, it's my "go to" snus.

I've only been snusing for three days now. My first day consisted of camel frost. Second day had more of the same with camel mellow mixed in. I was still smoking a lot though, as they weren't enough to cure the nicotine cravings.

Today, I went raced to the local tobacco store after I found out they carried snus (they closed in a half hour and it normally took me a half hour to get into that area!) and picked up a few types of General (Mint Mini, Original White, Original, and Wintergreen White).

I'm not as experienced as anyone around here, but I'd have to say, I disagree. Maybe it's not like the other stuff (Although I find it and Mini Mint to be very similar), but it's no where close to Frost. Frost has a ton more of a... frosty feeling to it. It's way too much mint. It's enjoyable for the first minute or two, but it starts to burn quickly. I didn't have that issue with any of the General stuff...

On the other hand, while the General stuff doesn't burn, my gums are sure sore. I've been switching up sides, but I'm going to have to start putting it on the bottom or the way back until it settles down. From what I understand, I guess this goes away in time? Pretty normal for a new snus user?

Either way, I'm happy I discovered this stuff. I wanted to dump the cigarette thing and it's already working. I'm not completely off them, but I'm getting close. I went most of the day without one, and figured, what the hell, I'll have one. I earned it. And I had already forgotten just how much I hate inhaling smoke into my lungs. Nicotine is great, smoke is not. The only issues I see are 1) Drinking 2) Work. I work with a lot of smokers and half the fun is going outside to smoke with them. I can still go out, but without a cigarette, it won't be the same. Like I read in another thread here, the best thing about smoking is the social aspect of it. Smokers, in general, tend to be much cooler people than the non-smokers. Or at least a lot more laid back, especially when smoking.

Sorry for the rambling hijack. I've been drinking and I've been pretty excited about snus since I discovered it.

The sore gums will calm down in time.

For some it took only a few days, for others it took a week or 2.

I too had very sore gums when i switched to snus exclusively.

Ive never had any problems with drinking and using snus.

On the contrary, some snus compliments a good beer, the only problem I had was that any mint flavored snus just tasted gross with beer.

I too thought it would be hard to not smoke when i went out with others.

As it turned out, i would just walk out with them and pop out my snus can, bake a pris and pop it in.

This actually made for quite the conversation piece and i just would kick back with them and explain it too them in a non-condescending way as not to sound smug.

            Welcome by the way.

Hey guys. I've been lurking for a couple weeks now. Time to finally join in.

I've been using non-camel snus for about two weeks now, and so far General Wintergreen is my favorite. It did take about a week for my gums to get used to the portions. The flavor is quite strong, but after smoking for many years my sense of taste isnt all that great.

Me too. I've tried a handful of different kinds since I started and I keep going back to General Wintergreen.....maybe its the fact that when I used to smoke, I smoked menthols and still crave the minty taste.

I can't stand when sweet and salty are mixed, and that's the taste I get with General Wintergreen. It was one of the first Swedish snuses I tried, so I used it for a month or so, but once I sampled others, I really haven't touched it since.

If you like wintergreen and a strong nic hit, you should try Thunder Wintergreen, Extra Stark. Man, that flavor lasts forever, but it's not overbearing, nor is it too strong.

I liked the General Wintergreen for about one portion and then it started to bother me. The mini mint is closer to the camel frost and I actually like it if I didnt need like 3 of them in my grill.

The Wintergreen sorta reminds me of my experiments with US snuff like skoal when I was a kid.
