    Yet another rare product

Found this 'Record Skraa' in a shop yesterday. Its a Danish tobacco product not entirely unlike Oliver Twist (about twice the size) - just more directed at an older generation of users (thinking weatherbeaten sailors, retired working class heroes and weird smelling grandpas)

Smell: almost exactly like the Samson Halfsware Shag hand rolling tobacco. Dark and potent and smoky.

Taste: the same but also very very sweet due to the crazy amount of sugary juices! This combination - I think - is best described as heavy bittersweet. The sweetness seem to fade away after some time, leaving room for the heavy tobacco taste itself. It's really quite hardcore in the end, and overall its far more vicious on the throat than any snus I know of. Swallowing the juices is like swallowing something pointy, but thats probably mostly because I'm not used to this product.

Miss Nicotina-factor: much more powerful stuff than the OT's, but, well, even though these little bastards actually hit quite hard, they simply can't compete with snus.

Bottom line: I guess not bad actually. But. The amount of sweet juices tend to make me a little sick. I've never been a fan of super sweet stuff and this is simply too much in the end. Also, being a snuser the bit og skrå itself simply feels strange in my mouth. Where is my soft pillow of happiness?

Pictures below shows: pouch vs tin of N & J; the juicy mess inside; the skrå compared to N & J portion.

could be that, like dip, etc, perhaps the juices are meant to be spat out and not swallowed?

Looks yummy, though this Skraa certainly wouldn't be an everyday-treat for me.

I wonder, how to make some sort of prilla out of it. It seems to be very very moist or syrupy.

        Cheers!

Yeah, brutal indeed. I tells ya, this stuff is like freaking tar! So hard to get of your fingers ... guess thats why they didn't bother with a glued sealing or a plastic zipper in the pouch - the juice itself simply does the trick!

Hm, I guess so. I would surely choose to spit if it was something I used frequently - which I'm surely not gonna do! I walk a different path, you know

About the prilla ... since its 'skrå' (or tobacco bits) you don't have to do anything but flip one of the grease sticks in your mouth. I guess you could force it in to new shapes and sizes, but I really wouldn't mess to much around with these - they're simply too juiced up.

Oh yeah, one thing I forgot to mention: the warning label says exactly the same as the ones we find on our snus tins (Denne tobaksvare kan være sundhedsskadelig og er afhængighedsskabende). Guess that puts it in the safer end ...

Reminds me of Germany's own Grimm und Triepel stuff.
Here's a clip from a TV report on the old-fashioned manufacturing.

Makes me think Denmark has plenty more niche tobacco related products tucked away on the fringes of society ready to be (re)discovered.

              Interesting links, thanks Craig!

I think you're right about the niche products (and I think it applies to many European countries). There is tons of stuff out there and the main reason why we don't know of it, is probably because it simply 'belongs' in an older generation ... a now almost gone working class for whom the oral tobacco products was much more convenient. The younger generations are all smokers and I suppose the oral tobacco companies (often small family businesses) just quickly gave up on them. Guess their dusty image couldn't handle guys like Marlboro Man.

But things are changing. Smoke bans doesn't strangle mans ancient relationship with nicotine - it just changes it slightly. In this case in the advantage of the snus production and such. Thats the picture in Denmark anyway.
