    Prima Flint

I threw a can of Prima Flint on my order today. The description noted that it had a sweet flavor which I'm not too keen on. I prefer a more traditional tobacco flavor. But Sage has really been pushing this snus lately so I decided to try it.

My question is does it have an overbearing sweetness, or is it subtle? Also what other flavors can you detect?

Not sweet!! Not really sweet at all. But flavors?? LOL, I am too new to this to be able to tell you. I'll let more experience folks carry that ball. BTW, drop the L. It's Prima Fint

PF is high on my favorite LOS list....

Not overpowering, nice long lasting flavor.

It's extremely mild, and the only flavor I get is mild tobacco. I don't care for it due to the fine grind, but the flavor's ok.

          Re: Prima Flint

It tastes like plain air-cured Kentucky tobacco (means with undertones of hazelnut). Like Sagedil said, it's not sweet at all. These descriptions saying that Prima Fint has 'hints of sweetness' must have been done by people with extremely fine taste-buds. In other words: nothing to worry for people who don't like sweet snus (me included). It's a very good brand, very similar to Ettan Lös.

          Cheers!

After having in a pris of Prima Fint for about forty minutes, I start to notice a very, very, very subtle sweetness. It isn't a sugary sweetness, but it's there.

I like it from time to time, but like lxskllr said the grind is very fine and this keeps me from using it more frequently.

OK, so I am new again to this. What makes the find grind an issue?

Oops! Thanks Sage! Apparently in the dozens of times that I've looked at the name, my English kept putting the L in there to make it more of an English sounding word! Thanks for the input guys. It sounds like something I will definately like. The fine grind does kinda make me worry about mudslide, but we shall see.

Here is the sure fire way to determine if you will like Prima Fint even before you order it:
                  1. Open an empty can of snus
                  2. Pretend to take a pris
                  3. Pretend to place the pretend pris in your mouth
                  4. Wait a few minutes to allow the pretend pris to settle and mix with
                  your saliva
                  5. Walah! That whole bunch of nothing you taste is exactly what you
                  will taste with Prima

Fine grinds, when they run, they really go. I can keep coarse snus corralled better. I can also manipulate coarse snus more to increase the flavor.

I find that the fine grinds pickle my gums more also. It adheres like plaster, and I get that wrinkly salty feel quicker with fine snus.

One of my favorite loose snus's. Very mild tobacco flavor. To me it's like Ettan light. has a touch of sweet on the end, but again super mild. I use an icetool, don't seem to have any problems with mudslide.

                        Interesting lxskllr.

I find it just molds better to my gums. More comfortable that other lös I have tried. I have had no issues with mudslides with it. Sure, a little bit comes loose, but not much.

And Snusdog, completely and utterly disagree with you. I seem to get much better flavor from the Prima Fint than I did with Grove.

In all seriousness, another factor to consider with a finely ground snus is that with a firmly packed pris the fine grind seals out more of the saliva and thus the flavor can not get out and thus the reputation of such snuses as Roda as being mild.

With Roda I have found that packing the pris more loosely allows the flavor to develop more. In fact, I don’t consider Roda mild at all.

That said, its been a while since I’ve had the Fint and thus have not had the chance to test it with a looser packing method.

Another way to test the flavor of a finer grind (especially if you are new to loose) is to lower lip it. Don’t bake it just put a pris size pinch in. You will need to spit while it is in. You may not keep it in long. You may need to rinse your mouth out after words. But it will give you a good idea of the taste capacity of the particular brand. Then you can adjust (or learn to adjust) the tightness of the pack you use for your pris.

It definitely wins on comfort. You might not have quite the same issues I do, as I think I leave my snus in longer. I keep it in for 1 hour minimum, and 2 hours plus isn't unusual. In the 30-45 minute range, I don't have any problems with the finer snuses.

It took a while for me to recognize the flavor of Grov but once I did I really liked it and found it very distinct. However, I never could find much to Prima and so moved on. All this talk though has made me put it on my revisit list.

Anyway, I’m not surprised that we have found different things. Both Grov and Fint are mild flavor wise. Thus, both will be more susceptible to the nuances of our different tastes, expectations, and frankly what we just finished snusing prior to trying the mild.

Think about it, how many times have you come to a new snus wanting or thinking it would be one thing only to be disappointed when it wasn’t. Then later, you came back to it after the expectations were forgotten and found you really liked it.

Time for me to revisit this one.

Hey and new snusers this is a good case in point of what you will hear over and again on this site- your taste changes. Thus every now and then revisit a snus you haven't tried for a while.
