Gellavaire...what am i missing?

I have seen several posts from people that are very excited about Gellavaire coming back. I'm a newbie and have never tried it. What am i missing? What kind of taste does this snus have, and can it be compared to any snus that is on the market today? With so many people being excited about its return my interest has been peaked! Also, is there a known date of its return?

It has an earthy natural flavor, that really isn't like any other snus. I guess it's closest match would be Ettan, but it's not much like it at all.

It's very difficult to handbake, which is the reason I got my IceTool. I had envisioned only using it for Gellivare and Landströms exclusively, but now use it for everything. It also has a bit of sand in it, similar to getting a spinach salad with some grit.

The company's about as small as they come, and could be likened to buying Amish made preserves at the farmers market.

Yup, lxskllr nailed it.

The Ettan is the closest match ... In my opinion it has a lot to do with the chocolate like notes that I seem to find in both Ettan and the old Gellivare, although the latter is (well, was) more cake like to me. As mentioned in above post it can be a PITA to hand bake, so I'd suggest getting at least a Prismaster, if you decide to give it a go - and you really should.

Why is it so hard to handbake? Too fine? Too coarse?

I will be ordering some and take my chances, but just curious. It disappeared just as I was getting into snus, so I'm excited to try it.

The old Gellivare was not just a very fine cut snus, it was also somewhat dry compared to, say, any lös from Swedish Match. Now, I realize that may not sound very appealing to people with mudslide-phobia, but it is absolutely worth the 'trouble' if you ask me. And again, with an Icetool or a Prismaster it's really no trouble at all. If you're used to keep a lös pris under your lip it will be no problem.

It was a little tricky to hand-bake but I found it would break apart when I placed it with a tool. I just shaped it into a ball and when it would moisten I'd squash it under my lip and it would stay put for hours. Really nice tasting stuff though.
