New 2 Snus

Hi all, another newbie here, I have been wanting to try snus ever since it became available at my local C-store, so I picked up a tin earlier this week. I tried the Camel "mellow" and,,,, well, it's plenty sweet enough. It's works great with coffee and curbs my need for smoking.
Quiting smoking is my goal.
Then I started searching around and found this site. Been reading through alot of posts, got alot of great info and this opened my eyes to whole new world.
I just received a sample tin of General white portion that I've been trying today and it seems OK, it's hellofalot different than Mellow but I think I will get used to it and I think it will be much better with beer!
I'll find out tonight :-p

I'm not a big fan of mint or citrus but I thought the variety would be worth trying - especially at less cost than a carton of cigs. I may try los sometime in the future.

Welcome to the... dark side? Anyway glad to see a new snuser, I personally am trying to convert the world *shifty glance*, but that's besides the point. I too started off on the camel, but the frosted, and it took me a while to get used to the taste of swedish snus. But now that I have I truly can't stand the taste of camel, I just recently bought a tin of the mellow on a whim and now it's just sitting on my night stand glaring at me with it's sugary beedy little eyes... But if you did enjoy the Mellow then I'd say give the Northerner Energy Snus a try for a smoother transition. It's got a honey taste to it without being overly sweet (and the caffeine makes things interesting as well, my girlfriend tried it and she said she felt like she was on coke but she has neither a caffeine or nicotine tolerance). As for quitting smoking, I'd say snus makes things much much easier, it was the only way I managed to quit. First, welcome to Snuson TKsnuser

As i am sure you have read if you have been reading other threads, it takes about a week or so to really get used to and start tasting as you should Swedish snus. It just takes that long for your body to get acclimated to the salt. So stay patient, and am sure you will come to love it.

Next order, try more classic tobacco flavored snus. When i first started using several years ago, I assumed I would prefer flavored snus. it took a while before i started trying the non flavored stuff, and quickly came to like that far more.

As for smoking, my best advice is just not to think about quitting in those terms. Keep using snus, smoke when you feel like it. If you are like most everyone who has quit here, the snus will do all the work for you. I had no intention of quitting, but over a month, i smoked less and less and preferred the superior nicotine delivery of snus more and more. one day, I just forgot to buy more cigarettes.

Lastly, where in North Carolina are you? I am in Raleigh. Know that always keep a large horde of snus. :wink:

Welcome TK! As i'm sure you've already noticed, there is a wealth of information on this forum. No matter what your question is...there is somebody here that can help. That's what i like about snuson, there is an expert in pretty much every facet of snus here! That, and they're a great bunch of guys and gals...plenty of laughs!

somebodysomone88 - thanks - I'll keep the Mellow around for backup - but I truely believe that I will give up smoking, so far this is a much better way to get vitamin N....

sage, I could quickly pick up on the pepper / citrus of the General ... not bad... and pretty darn good with a couple of brews .... also, when browsing, I think it was one of your posts which recommended newbies start w/old posts and move forward, I did and it was very helpful. I don't know for sure, but being Norwegian, I think this was destiny...

TKsnuser, just keep using snus and you wll like how it gives you your Vitamin N more and more. That really is the most magical part of snus.

And I ride my motorcycle to the coast a couple of times a month during summer. f you ever find yourself without, please, please do let me know.

The goteborgs mini and the eucalyptus mini are really good. These are great transitional snuses from American to Swedish. I used the Catch Eucalyptus when I first switched, along with General Mini Mint (the equivalent of Camel Frost...but good, haha), and Mocca Pomegranate. Those were my first 2 that I liked.

Other ones to look into - Ettan makes a white portion snus that is a really good quality snus. Really mild, mellow taste. I suggest it, along with the other two I mentioned above. I suggest trying to Catch Eucalyptus FIRST when you get your kit in the mail. This is a great first snus.

Things to remember.

You'll get used to the smell. It's strong at first, I suggest not smelling it, just grab your portion and put it in your mouth.

You'll get used to the salt. Unlike American snus that hides flavor with sweetness, the salt brings out the great flavor of Swedish Snus. Trust me, you'll learn to love it

I smoked for 20 years. When I got my first tin of snus, I had one pack of cigs left. I started using the snus and ended up tossing the pack out.

Good luck on quitting the smokes.

Just a FYI, Catch Eucalyptus is not for everyone. Some folks, like ME, think it tastes God awful. I never tried a third and threw my can away

Welcome TK. I'm still down for some catch euc every now and again. I usually throw in a tin every other order. Its a good dry snus for times when a beverage isn't handy, IMO, and one of the first snus I ever had. Maybe its just the nostalgia, but I can dig it.

Back for a quick update... Just rec'd my order yesterday (took almost 3 freakin weeks), at least it showed up. I had already placed another order to getsnus in case the N'thernr shipment didn't make it.

I have sampled:
Catch Dry Eucalyptus Euc - first (as Chad suggested) - nice mint and mild nic hit for 10 - 15 mins, then a little salty, then tapers off quick - not bad.
Goteborgs Rape - fairly mild - good tobacco flavor, should be great with malted beverage.
Ettan - Stronger tobacco flavor, need to try more.
Energy - not as much energy as I hoping for but; gave 2 to a co-worker he was a happy camper for 30 mins.... need to try more...
General (various) - consistent - tobacco and salt...
and lastly, Oomph citrus - what the heck! very weak, little to no Nic not much use for this one...
Just my observation so far and as many have stated, will prolly change.
All in all I've enjoyed trying the brands / flavors and will be trying more.
Also, gotta tell you - I've read some hilarious stuff on here (ie - hope I don't shit my pants when the Thunder arrives!)

Lastly, I'm proud to say, I'm on a roll, this is my 3rd smoke free day! YAAH!!
