Don't hate me for this post. I'm just wondering...

I like posting here. Asking questions, meeting people, etc., etc.
But I just have to wonder, what's it all about?
I mean how hard is it to stick a $3. tobacco product up under your lip?
Just imagine if cigarettes were something new the kind of things we'd be posting.

Hi, I'm new to cigaretts and I just accidently opened my pack from the bottom. Will that hurt the flavor?
I took apart my cigarette and it's fill of this flaky brown stuff. Is that normal?
    Which end should I light?
How long should I hold the flame to the end of the cigarette?
Anyone else have spots on their lungs?

A poll would be started that asks; Do you A) blow out your match or B) shake it till it goes out

Discussions would go on about should we use paper matches, wooden matches, or lighters. And chances are someone would leave the forum over it.

Are we just taking Snus to seriously?

Yes, I think we are too serious. But it's fun to me and gives me a place to hang out with snusars because I cannot seem to get anyone I know to put them in the mouth.

Kinda like the smoke shack outside my office, but virtual lol.

I had someone ask me this the other day. "What's it all about, why the forums?" And one thing that's different about snus is the flavor&variety (okay that's 2 things) that these products offer.

When I was a smoker, I didn't go online and ask people what brands of cigarettes to try. I knew the big brands. And if I ever wanted anything crazy or different I'd buy a good cigar, or smoke some clove ciggies. But in general, I smoked, and that was as far as I took it.

Snus is SO varied that these communities are almost a neccessity. It helps people to learn about other varities, and to compare tastes. Especially when assembling an order, the opinions and suggestions of others is how I've built my snus library. Granted, I didn't like them all, but without forums I wouldn't know what to get. Think about when you go to a restaraunt and ask the waitor, "What's good?" Most of the time, they really don't care and will say, "It's all good." On the other hand, find a regular customer and ask them, "What's good?" and they'll be able to offer you their opinons.

The other reason these forums are good is because of RJR. Granted, their Camel product is TERRIBLE But, people are going to learn about Swedish Snus and switch. That's the one thing I can thank them for, they made a product that is SO terrible but presents a different option for smokeless tobacco that people will still want to try it - which will drive them online to look for better options. It's just common sense. Not everyone, but people who snus regularly or quit smoking with snus are going to want something stronger, or something that tastes better, or something that lasts longer. And they'll be going online to look for it. These forums are great because it allows a certain level of interaction among snus users. Reading reviews is one thing, but saying "Hey, I'm interested in PRODUCT A, I'd like to hear opinions of PRODUCT A from everyone.", and then discussing it further. Forums are great for that.

Snus is like a huge buffet. Granted when you go in, you'll pick things you're familiar with, and have those time and time again. But from time to time you'll want variety. And in the Snus Buffet, these forums help make decisions when it comes time, as well as educating those who are new to this form of tobacco.

I have just always thought it was some sort of drug they put in the snus. Kinda Ecstasy related that just makes us all feel compelled to share, share, share.

But do we need the reviews? When it's all said and done everyone tastes are different. Show me a review that says one product is strong and tastes terrible and I'll show you another for the same product that says it's mild and wonderful.
You need to try it yourself and for $3. a can take a chance on it.

Educate people on using it? Put the tobacco under your upper lip. End of education.

We seem to be over complicating this.

I honestly don't get too interested in the "do you line up your snus can caps" (sorry to whoever started that one; I'm not hating) topics.

It is a lot like cigar aficionados. The vast majority will just go buy one, try it and if they like it they will keep buying it. They will probably never have a conversation more than 5 minutes about a cigar, and they will definitely never join a forum about them. But there are a few who treat it more like a hobby. They research it, talk at length with others about what to try and why and love giving their opinions. That is pretty much why this forum is here. For every one of us, there are probably 50 - 100 that just buy it, put it under their lip and are done with it.

Most vices, for whatever reason (probably just because people are passionate about vices), have aficionados that get very deep into their "hobby". Look at wine, cigars, snus, snuff, beer and even the "harder" vices, gambling and drugs. For several reasons, cigarettes don't get the same following. There are only several major brands, and they are all readily available, which limits the "discovery" feeling. There are not many perceived "high-grade" cigs, and attempts to introduce some over the last several decades have failed. Lastly, there is so much negative press over cigarettes and pressure to quit, most people would feel shameful these days looking at cigs as a hobby.

just reading this made me wonder what Dennis Leary would say....haha. his standup has always been so PRO-SMOKING. i wonder what he'd say about snus.

"I love to smoke. I smoke seven thousand packs a day, ok. And I am never f****** quitting! I don't care how many laws they make. What's the law now? You can only smoke in your apartment, under a blanket, with all the lights out? Is that the rule now, huh?! The cops are outside, "We know you have the cigarettes. Come out of the house with the cigarettes above your head." "You'll never get me copper! I'm never coming out, you hear? I got a cigarette machine right here in my bedroom. Yeah!""

"I love to smoke. I love to smoke and I love to eat red meat. I love to eat raw f****** red meat. Nothing I like better than sucking down a hot steaming cheese burger and a butt at the same time. I love to smoke. I love to eat red meat. I'll only eat red meat that comes from cows who smoke, ok!? Special cows they grow in Virginia with voice boxes in their necks. "[VB] Moo"

I for one am glad there are people out there who take snus too seriously! When I first became interested in snus, it was a huge advantage to find a site like this full of great information. I don't take snus anywhere near as seriously as some here, but it's very useful to be able to ask questions of the snus fiends :-D

No, those of us that have been here a long, long time just end up answering the same questions thousands of times for newbies. And 2 years from now, I expect to be doing the same.

Honestly, I am not here to get information. I figured out my snus world before I even found Snuson (6 months into my love affair with snus). But ever since the introduction of Camel, I knew that there would be ever more new people to snus who really didn't know yet, I wanted to be one of the one's that helped light their journey.

I still do, and probably always will. Plus, I have come to like a whole bunch of folks here and just like hanging with them.

But if you really pay attention to how I post, you will see that I am the first or second person to welcome a new user like 95% of the time. Those are the posts that get me to compulsively check back here every hour on the hour, day after day, week after week.

There will always be new people coming in asking the exact same questions. I can't count how many times I've answered "What do you suggest the next step up from Camel (US) "SNUS" to be?" I enjoy answering those questions because so many people were there to answer that question for me.

But then again, I like taking part in the "Do you line your lid up?" threads as well.

                            Man that is classic!!!

I really enjoy the discussions and all the folks hear. And I do find the reviews helpful. Also, to those just starting the tips can be very helpful as well.

However, that's just me. What we should do is start a poll.

The "How many people think this poll is silly" poll.

It might give us an indication of how silly we are. Then we can run a few threads and discuss the results

                            Just an idea
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Just as long as you make sure it descends into a political thread, and make sure we got the merits of Nazism covered, all will be perfect.
