Purifying tobacco means they changed the Nicotine acid sequence by binding a protein to the DNA, this makes the Nicotine more water soluble hence the rapid uptake.

Can someone throw a picture on of the Northerners Portion of the Oomph or elixr? All I've seen so far is the can.

            Sorry, don't have Elixr.
Northerner Energy is the same size as Oomph.
One thing not obvious in the photo is that the purified is super thin.

            Top -> down:

            1) Oomph Citrus & Menthol (purified)
            2) Tre Ankare mini
            3) Mocca Mint mini
            4) Granit white regular
            5) Onyx

Hey, I don't use mini portions or have a problem concealing regulars (thanks, snus-beard), but after reading this thread I wanted to offer a tip to yummi and others who don't want people to notice their Swedish Snarl: if you haven't already, try some softer portions like odens or thunder. These 2 (and probably others I can't think of now, so tired) are very pliable and can be easily crammed into the upper reaches of your lip and flattened, or better yet, comfortably pushed back along the side of your molars. I always have some kind of beverage with snus, but find it more crucial with a portion on the side due to extra juice flow. Grov regular is pretty soft too if the strong ones aren't your bag.

Other portions, like Skruf, GES, etc are plump and rather stiff (inuendo not intended!) and are not as easily maneuvered into less noticeable spots in your mouth. I would not be happy if I felt uncomfortable taking anything but minis out in public, so I just thought I'd share my opinion that softer portions seem way easier to hide from unwanted observers. Odens and thunder are also great for using at the bar because they last forever

for the love of God, do not get oomph. let me find my review of it...

                -----

I was unpleasantly suprised today with a new snus. I saw a package today that said "Northerner", and for the life of me I couldn't remember what I ordered form them that SnusCentral.com didn't have. Well here it is. Oomph (formerly Wise) Citrus & Menthol. The FIRST snus I got that I didn't like. The can was dirty when I got it, like dust from shelf life or just a dirty environment, I wasn't very pleased. When I opened up the can, the inside was dirty as well, but I didn't see any burst snus pouches. So I don't know how that happened. I thought, "Well, ok, I'm sure this snus will be worth it." The container boasts whitening, breath freashening, citrus and menthol. I thought this would be a GREAT snus. It's not. The pouches were dry, I'll be honest, it looks worse than Camel Frost. The snus looks like gunpowder - completely dry. When I put it in, no flavor, no aftertaste, no buzz, nothing. It's like inhaling through a straw and pretending it's a cigarette. I got nothing out of this snus. So I can't add on this is a good transitional snus, or a great first snus, all I can say is, it's snus. That's about it. No smell, no buzz, no taste. Didn't do it for me, at all.

haha, i like how i was only buying from snuscentral back then. must have been before i discovered the difference between parent/affiliate

I don't know that sounds like a tainted tin, have you ordered another to see if all of them are like this?

The Oomph/Wise brands seem to affect everyone differently.

From my experience (Lagmark Vin & Koksnus, Wise Original, both 6mg and both now named Oomph or discontinued) the nicotine impact is minimal faster than with traditional snus and by no means stronger than an original 8mg-portion.

Nonetheless, it's a quality-product and worth a try IMHO, just don't expect anything like snus. It's a totally different kind of smokeless "purified" (whatever that means) tobacco, extremely dry.

I wouldn't call the can dirty, it's just coated with some powdery stuff maybe to keep the portions dry, maybe it's just the same stuff that's inside the portions. I guess it's a pretty 'dusty' air in the factory.

                    Cheers!

Interesting, a food factory wouldn't tolerate dust in their products, or at least I hope not. Time for an inspection.

Thanks for photos w/ the comparisons.

                            They're supposed to be dry.

The dust is coming from the dry powdered tobacco in the portion.

It's not dirt, it's not from sitting on a shelf too long.

I've never got a Oomph/Wise can that didn't have that. It's from the dry portions tossing around in the can.

Regardless it is a different animal.

Back to strong minis. I found a can of Mocca + in a drawer. They were old and desiccated. I cried and threw them out.

I would like to try a few different strong minis. I want regular not white portions though.

Given the Swedish food regulations (which snus falls under), I doubt very much that it's dust of the dirty variety.

I believe that it's particles of dried cellulose which is the filler used with the purified snus to bulk out the bags a little bit. Given that the bags are by necessity not air tight and neither is the can (although it could be), the smaller bits of cellulose come out of the pouches and out of the edge of the can during transit. No worse than sugar dusted candy leaking out of packaging IMHO.

PS. They're not anything like regular snus but, in their own way, I really quite like them.
