A Swedish Match version of Copenhagen

I just posted a topic over on the "Ask Markus and Joakim" section of the forum, titled "A Swedish Match version of Copenhagen".

I have included the post below. If you are interested visit the thread and let your voice be heard. Here is the link:

    Here is the post:

    Markus and Joakim

Let me throw another product suggestion at you. There are many of us on the forum who have made the move from American dip to snus and have no desire to go back. But at the same time we greatly miss the taste and feel of Copenhagen.

I think if SM could produce a loose snus that had the taste and cut of Copenhagen (so it could be dipped as well as snussed) while maintaining the purity of Swedish snus (i.e. without all the noxious chemicals and additives they put in American dip) you would hit a goldmine and would have a product that would bust open the American market for SM.

While I've never dipped in the past I can see how this could make sense. However I dont think sm would launch such a product under the general name, and is disinterested in attempting to launch a new product line in America, given that they already have a line of American style dip being made.

Billy1, I hear you man but I disagree. That would be like SM saying we can make a soda that is better than Coke-a-Cola but we just launched a berry punch so never mind. Why would you stop with a product that competes for a small percentage of the market when you could launch a product that would compete for the largest share of the market.

Anyway, I can always dream. It may never come to be. But it don’t hurt to ask

          Red Man.

I wonder how close you can get to Cope using snus production methods. It may not be possible purely due to production methods.

At least with coffee Ettan and Groz los taste mostly like Copenhagen. Matter of taste though. Throw a pinch of ettan in your bottom lip and chug a cup o' joe and see how well it might remind you.

I gave snus to one of the guys in my politics classes last semester, and he was a big dipper. He said Ettan tasted just like Cope.

You can make your own authentic Copenhagen snus! I have the secret.

                  1. Buy a can of Copenhagen Pouches.

                  2. Buy a can of Grovsnus Original Portions.

                  3. Remove the Copenhagen tobacco from the can.

                  4. Put the Grovsnus portions in the Copenhagen can.

Presto! Don't tell anyone my secret though...

On a serious note, I think a launch of Copenhagen snus would be quite profitable for SM's American market. The Cope brand is already recognized for having a natural tobacco taste (somewhat similar to snus). In my opinion, the flavor formula is very similar to Grovsnus. Even though Copenhagen snus wouldn't be popular with smokers, since the name is associated with "nasty spit-tobacco", a snus product under the name would sell extremely well in the South and among dippers.

Would it be possible for SM to make a long cut version of Ettan or do the production methods prevent that?

I saw Skoal pouches at the grocery store, let me get this straight. Are these considered spitless tobacco?

No. those are spit Skoal in a pouch. Skoal makes a snus also, but it has limited distribution, and from what I've read, tastes like crap.
