Help Me with a few questions

I have smoked cigars and pipes for over 20 years. I recently tried the Camel snus samples I was mailed. I enjoy the spice and frost flavors. While I enjoy the nicotine hit from cigars and pipes, i have never considered myself addicted to nicotine. In fact if i smoke a stong cigar, i sometimes find myself a little overwhelmed by the nicotine. What I am getting at, is I would like some recommendations for snus to try that has a pleasant flavor, without a big nicotine kick. I would also like to know if I should stick with the portions (like the Camel Snus I have been trying), or experiment with loose snus. Any other words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi cigator,

    welcome to the forum!

Just try Röda Lacket Lös. It has a cigar-like flavor, I'd even say it has a Havana-like flavor. Very good! BTW, the portions are totally different from the lös and taste more fruity, almost candy-like.

Röda Lacket Lös is more on the weaker side, regarding nicotine-content and with lössnus in general, you just can make pinches, as small or big as you want.

Miniportions would be another suggestion. Knox mini or general mini are interesting. Maybe Tre Ankare mini would be even better, but I don't know them yet. Unfortunately, there aren't too many miniportions with natural tobacco-flavor.

    Cheers!

I dunno, I've seen occasional (casual) smokers who have found that even minis, at least the first few, make them dizzy with nicotine. I don't know what the Camels are like, but Swedish snus is pretty nicotine-potent stuff. Wise portions are probably the lightest you can get.

Roda is a bit lighter than typical snus, but not much. To a non-snusser it would probably still seem to pack a wallop.

Maybe you could try 'Wise' portions they are small, low nicotine and come in a couple of flavours[1]. Or if you wanted to forgo the nicotine entirely then onico and XQ portions are an option.[2]

Loose tastes better and is also stronger. It could suite you as it is possible to control the amount you use unlike portions.

As for flavour, I love the taste of probe (sweet)[3] and rape no.2 (cranberry)[4] but both of these only come in the larger sizes which may have too much of a nicotine kick for your liking.

I think the best thing is to order a few different ones and see what you like the most!

        good luck

Thanks for the info. If I use loose with an ice tool, can I make servings that are smaller than a mini pouch? That way I can try loose without overdosing on nicotine.

The first notch on a 3ml icetool is about the same as a mini portion

I would say that the Icetool/lös solution is perfect regarding both size-experiments and control. It's also the most expensive one, thats no secret, but then again - I've never heard a single complaint about this handy helper. And I must admit, getting the tool simply took my relationship with snus to another level. Today it just wouldn't be the same without it.

Dang, I should be on the payroll for cheesy talks like this :?

cigator, so much of snus (like pipe tobacco) is based on tastes; what I like is what I like. When reading reviews, take all with an open mind.

What I found here as a relatively new snus'er is that there are several solid, great products and then there's everything else.

Camel Snus tastes nothing like real snus, Swedish snus.

Portions vs. loose? If you're snus'ing in public then I'd go for portions. If you're enjoying snus at home then I'd wholly recommend the loose. And I'd recommend an Icetool. The Icetool is fabulous and yes, you can make a big prilla or a tiny little puck of a prilla.

As someone suggested earlier, I'd try Roda for a start but understand that Roda is a more "fine grind" snus. Another one that I'd recommend (if you like some of the Camel flavors) is the Goteborgs Rape.

Order a sampler from Northern. Pick up a few tins of the ones you'd like to try, both portions and loose. Experiment!

Do NOT buy Skruf Stark as a starter. It'll melt your socks!

Jeez, am I the only one who instantly thought "ETTAN" when I read he smokes cigars??
As far as I know Ettan has the straightest ,smokiest tobacco taste around.

Cigator, maybe it'd be a good idea to try out all three Ettan types starting with the portions as those are lighter on the nic than loose (unless you make small prillas by hand or with a tool).

I love Ettan. Wonderful "straight tobacco" snus!

As cigator mentioned that he likes Camel "product", I figured that he wanted flavored snus. Camel tastes nothing like tobacco - the "Original" tastes like Coca-Cola, no tobacco flavor at all. I gave my tin to a co-worker who smokes.

Roda or Goteborgs Rape would be a good start on mildly flavored, natural, quality snus.

Thanks for all your input. I will be ordering many of your suggestions and an icetool next week. I will offer my comments as I try them out.

this is a bit off topic...but right before I left the military is when I got into snus..and my supervisor was really into dipping, or at least really into bumming a dip. when i changed from dip to snus he wasn't too open minded about it. but i had him try some goteborgs rape. he was like holy crap it burns! but after a few portions of it he really got attached to it.....but the name goteborgs rape sounded funny to him and almost everyday when i showed up to work he was like 'did ya bring the goat rape today?"

Hm, wish I'd used snus when I was in the military. Would've been nice with a big fat General on all those cold guards and patrols
