    American snus?

hey everybody, i recently bought a tin of camel frost and i gotta say, i enjoyed it. well my question is will snus become a permanent product in the u.s? i known that right now they are just testing it to see how it does, but i would like to see it become a permanent product.

Welcome. This is a great forum to help you learn about snus. As I'm a snubie (Snus Noob) I'm going to let some of the more experienced people explain more about snus, but here are three places to get started.

    http://www.generalsnus.com/
    www.getsnus.com
    www.northerner.com

Each site has information about swedish snus and some free samples for you to try out.

Hiya Bobbycamel! Welcome to the most informative snus web forum! <--purely my opinion. I may be wrong about this but it appears as if Camel has launched their product nationwide. I just drove from Atlanta to Cleveland and every city I stopped in, Camel snus was there! Now finding other snus such as Marlboro, General, etc...in the U.S. is challenging. If all else fails, northerner carries a huge variety. Hope this helps!

PS - I asked several clerks how sales were doing and they all said GREAT, so hopefully there's a good chance Camel will be around for a while, perhaps til the FDA stops them.

Camel Snus has indeed passed the "testing" stage. I doubt it will remain anything like its current self once the new law passes, though. It's the main target of flavoring ban in the new law, so to stick around it will probably have to be changed to taste more like Swedish snus (not necessarily a bad thing, IMO).

its great to hear that sales are good. ive never been much of a smoker and i used dipping tobacco alot but ever since ive been using snus ive been dipping much less. another question, why would there be a flavoring ban?

camel snus IMO can't get any more like candy. and "candylike" tobacco is banned under the new FDA terms.

                  FDA and snus

The new law allowing FDA to regulate tobacco products has a provision allowing the body to evaluate flavors in cigarettes, with the (uncanny) exception of menthol.

Flavorings in snus will not be affected.

I think the only thing that might change with the FDA rule is Camel snus may become more pure due to restrictions on ingredients the FDA my put in place. This may be a good thing for the US snus market. I believe Sweden's version of the FDA controls ingredients in Swedish snus and requires ingredient lists on the cans.

I started on Camel too. I liked it at the time, but after trying the real stuff, I cant believe Camel ever tasted good to me.

If you like Camel, try some of the swedish stuff.

To answer your question, I believe Camel is here to stay unless it just doesn't sell well. I live in the sticks and we have it everywhere and it seems to be selling well, so I imagine other markets are also doing well, so it looks like it will be available for a long time.

Welcome to the forum bobbycamel. Glad to have you. I too came to snus by way of dipping and have never looked back. I think you will find this forum both very informative and a whole lot of fun. There are a lot of great folks here who are very knowledgeable.

Also, a while back I posted a thread especially for dippers. It's called "A dipper's Guide to Snus". Rather than repeat it all here, I'll just provide the link. You can check it out if you would like.

Again welcome to the forum and enjoy the journey

There is a provision in the same section that allows the Secretary of the committee to apply the same judgment regarding flavors in cigarettes to ALL tobacco products, snus included.
