When I used to party, I tried homebrewing absinthe. I had all of the correct herbs and such. I threw in extra wormwood to enhance the supposed psychedelic effects. I made it with 150-proof Everclear instead of 190. It tasted like hell and didn't make me hallucinate It got me really buzzed though, along with the entire bottle of champagne I finished off.

Then I smoked the remaining wormwood in a pipe and that didn't do much of anything either.

i think wormwoods psychedelic effects are more or less a myth. if you look up absinthe and read a bit about it, its pretty much concluded that the man that caused its outlawing (jean paul lanfray, ive always wanted to make a doom metal band called jean paul lanfray) got all hammered on absinthe and killed his family, but he was more or less a crazy ****ing drunk, and it wasnt just the absinthes fault. interestingly, absinthe was the first drug type substance outlawed in america. wikipedia has a pretty neat article on that era, called the great binge. i imagine the amount of substances being used had much to do with the legends surrounding ye olden days. causing people to believe in weird shit.
