Where did you hear about it?

I'm just wondering where everyone heard about snus. here's my story:

My brother was always on a forum called something awful and came by a topic about snus. He was reading it and one day referd me to it since he didnt like that i smoked and it seemed to be a good alternative to my love of the vitamin N.

the topic on the forum was very informative as they had mostly anything you wanted to know about snus. From diffrent brands , health concerns , personal opinions to ideas on how to start. I lurked the topic for week thinking if i should try it or not and spent a week driving all around new jersey looking for a place thats sells some, which i didn't find.

in the end i just ordered a starter box from northerner and fell i love with it. Been snusing every since. then i got deployed and forgot i had snus in my bag and started smokeing like a stack house untill i found my snus in my bag. Now i am smoke free for 5 days so far and loving my tin of N&J strong.

I was reading an article 2+ years ago on the web, long ago forgot what it was. It mentioned Swedish snus, and I was intrigued so I looked it up on Wikipedia. From there, a bit of searching, and I found Northerner and a few other sites that sold it, so ordered a try out box.

I really wasn't looking to quit smoking, i just wanted something that would help me get through a 4 hour shift without having to leave my sales floor all the time. The quitting smoking was just an unexpected bonus.

I found another, really BAD snus fourum. Useful for a bit of info as I was just starting. Found Snuson 6 months later, the rest is history.

I started dipping and taking snuff about five years ago. It was killing my gums and nostrils even just a few months into it and I remembered that my family over in Sweden used to take a different kind of snuff. I asked my dad about it and he told me all about snus. That lead to me finding The Northerner and not much later Buysnus. This was around 2005 or so.

I was trying to find an alternative to cigarettes, then Camel SNUS hit the shelves and peaked my interest in ST.

I also read that thread on SomethingAwful. The forum is full of bastards, but I'm terribly grateful for that thread! :P

TropicalBob mentioned it on an e-cigarette forum I used to be on so I thought I'd give it a go.
The e-cigs have now been mostly retired; I like snus better.

Read about camel snus on yahoo in 2008 (how it's candy for kids etc) , decided to give it a shot instead of dipping, googled snus, found the recommendations to try real swedish snus.

I first became curious about snus after seeing the Camel fridges at my local convenience stores. I did some research online and discovered Swedish Snus.

I forgot about it until I was researching a Scandanavian vacation and snus kept popping up. Figured it was a sign to give it a go. Found it to be far superior to any domestic tobacco.

My first blog post about snus:

I'm brand new to snus. I quit smoking about 4 weeks ago with the help of Camel "SNUS" (I'll explain why it's in quotations later). I didn't know a thing about snus until I saw a display that said "Sold Cold" at the gas station that is next to the business that I (used to) manage. I looked at it and they were testing out something called Camel "SNUS" so I was like, "eh, what the hell, I'll try it." I started using it while I was smoking, and to my suprise it actually started curving my cravings for cigarettes until eventually I didn't want to even smoke at all anymore.

The problem arose when I realized, "Hey, there's only 2 flavors - Mellow and Frost. I wonder if anyone else makes snus?" So I went online and typed in "snus" and Marlboro came up and Skoal and several websites about Swedish Snus. Back to my story, I started reading around and found out about Swedish Snus, and that there are two words to snus. Swedish Snus and American Snus. Swedish Snus I will tell you without going into too much detail is far superiod. Once you've tried Camel "SNUS" and REAL Swedish snus, there's NO going back. It's like night and day. Snus is a moist tobacco that goes under the lip and comes in portions (original "loose" or portioned). I myself prefer portioned. But to each their own. The pouch goes under the lip and can be used for anywhere from 30 minutes - an hour or more. I won't go too much into the production, but it is alot better than the way American's do tobacco. http://www.swedish-snus.com/ has a great info page on their main page about snus, it's production, and the health factors. It comes moist or dry, however both taste great. Other than the Camel stuff, which is like comparing fast food to an expensive restaraunt. It's just amazing.

So as I read more about Swedish Snus and decided I wanted to try it myself. I went online, and without reading other reviews or suggestions I just bought a White Portion try-and-buy kit from Swedish Match. I got it, and opened them all up one by one and expected a sweet smell like what I had with Camel "SNUS". And the smell grabbed my nose and smacked my brain. It was INTENSE. I put it in the freezer, and went out and bought more Camel "SNUS". However, after reading more reviews and forum posts on SnusCENTRAL, I found a helpful piece of information. "STOP SMELLING THE SNUS!" And after I read that, I learned about other snus's that would make better transitions for "snubies", as we are called when we are new to snus. So I went and bought a few products to try them out. I received several and should have reviewed them as I went, but I just made notes as time went by. I'm going to post my first three reviews after this blog post, and then I'll be reviewing them individually as I receive them. I hope people will find my blog informative, as I know the transition from Camel "SNUS" to Swedish Snus is confusing, but I promise you it is WELL worth it. Welcome to a brand new world.

I heard about Camel Snus 2 years ago when it was still in test markets, In my search to find it, I found Swedish Snus instead. I used Swedish snus for 6 months before I had my first piece of Camel droppings. 8)

I posted this last August in a similar thread...

I'm new to the forum and to snus in general (about a week)... I might as well start at the beginning... When I was a kid, about 12 or so, Skoal and Copenhagen were very popular among my circle of friends. I tried it two or three times, but each time it made me ill within a few minutes. Then I tried chewing Levi Garrett, which I loved, and it didn't make me sick... So I chewed LG pouch and plug for a few years until I started smoking in earnest at about 15... I was a pack-a-day+ smoker for 20 years, with never any real interest in quitting until a couple weeks ago...

I was at a family function, and my wife's cousin who was a dedicated smoker much like myself said that he was cutting back, and using Oliver Twist to help. I didn't really think much of it since I'd previously used smokeless tobacco, and thought it was just some new kind of tobacco that you chewed and spit like normal... A few days after that, we were at the Indian smoke shop getting our ration of cigs, and my wife saw a can of OT there and pointed out that that's what her cousin was using. Still not that interested, I just glanced at the can and noticed that it said smokeless and spitless tobacco... Well that piqued my interest, so I started Googling around and found a forum (not this one) on snus, and I just lurked there for a couple days... I made a few calls to the local tobacconists to see if they carried snus, and unfortunately none of them did... So I found the Swedish Match website and read a little more information, and decided to buy the portion variety pack...

Well I went back to that first forum, and only then noticed that it had been dead for a couple years, so after some more searching I ended up here... I'm still working on that first selector pack, and I haven't totally given up smoking, but I've cut way back... I am very happy with snus so far. I love the taste, and I've experienced no ill effects except for a little bit tender lip on one side... I can snus without any urge to spit, and I can drink from a glass with no problem... Yes, I've only been using portions, and I'll probably just stick with those for a while because it's more discreet, and I really don't want to gross out my wife and kids... Wink

All-in-all I think that I will stick with snus, and endeavor to kick the smokes for good... I'm happy to know that there are many like minded folks out there to chat with about snus! Very Happy

I came by snus in the following manner:

So there I was hiking a forgotten trail in the Himalayas when suddenly the trail guide received a deadly bite by the infamous yellow tipped Yaka snake. I leapt into action. Pulling my trusty Daufemhammer trail knife (limited anniversary addition) from my pack I proceeded to make the life saving incision. The poison was spreading rapidly and already the guide’s leg was beginning to swell. Time was of the essence.

As I was extracting the poison from the wound, suddenly a pack of deranged baboons attacked our group. It was certain death unless we neutralized the baboon assault and certain death if our guide died. Again I reached for my pack and retrieved my trusty Daufemhammer Trail knife (limited anniversary addition) and while continuing the life giving care to our guide, I fought off the pack of baboons with my knife in the other hand. But it was no use without something to draw out the rapidly spreading poison our guide would soon be dead.

Just when all hope seemed to be lost and men of lesser metal than my self would have crumbled, a research group from Swedish zoological Bikini team appeared just up the trail. One of the buxom angels of mercy just happened to have a can of Skruf Stark. My vast knowledge in wilderness survival told me at once that the Skruf Stark would do the trick. I placed a portion in my mouth and then placed it on the wound. The remedy worked in a matter of second. Not only was our guide saved but I had discovered the joys of Swedish snus.

The members of our expedition were so thankful that we invited the girls from Swedish zoological Bikini team to join us for a rustic trail dinner. Just as we were finishing our meal suddenly the entire Swedish zoological Bikini team burst into flames. I leapt into action…..

Actually, a friend told me about snus and gave me some to sample. Oh well.
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I was desperate to give up cigarettes and was convinced that there should be a safer way of delivering a strong nicotine content.

                          Thanks Google.

I found Tourney snus in a local store and wondered what this snus stuff was. Bought 1 can and started doing internet research. Found SnusOn and have been happy since.

I saw Camel snus at the local convenience store and thought "what the hell...i'm game" and bought a can. After reading the pamphlet that came with the can and seeing that they really wanted me to know that it was Swedish, i hit the computer. Thanks to google i found a link to Getsnus and a buddy of mine bit the bullet and ordered a roll of OR apple. He ended up giving me half the roll. To me it tasted horrible, so after another google search i found snuson, recieved some dandy advice, and the rest is history!
