    Snus revisited

Anyone ever quit snus, and after a while try it again?

    Hi,
I have just been using nasal snuff for a while, but I decided to revisit snus again. Mainly because it seems, this change in weather, here in the US to hot and humid, has made me often stopped up, and the snuff isn't helping it, it seems to make it worse. So I am sitting here nasally stopped up as I write this. When I first started nasal snuff it was cold weather, and I had no issues at all. Anyway, on days when I am stopped up, I thought some snus might be good to do. Now I am "revisiting" snus, because my 1st take, I really didn't care for it too much. I didn't hate it, but maybe also it was the kinds I had. So, I am thinking, how sometimes someone doesn't like something, but then later does. Also like snuff, snus has many different flavors and brands, some people like some more than others, so it's all a matter of you don't know till you try it. So I made an order for 4 different snus cans, and maybe I can snus in the day, and snuff at night, or vice versa, or snus in the summer, and snuff in the cooler seasons. I don't know, but I do know I am feeling miserable not haveing clear nasal passageways.... I haven't hit the nasal spray in a while... hmmm I was trying to avoid using that though.

I don't think thats a bad idea and hey you might start to enjoy snus. I'd have to say its an aquired tatse for most people. i'v tried to give some people a taste and they either dont like the taste or smell.

give a bunch of them a try and see which you like. at first i didn't like goteborgs rape but now i love it. It's very tasty especially after a meal.

I love snuff with snus. But can't imagine snuff alone could meet my tobacco needs.

Just curious, how long did you use the snus the first time??

I didn't use snus for very long. Maybe a month, I am not sure. I wasn't coming off cigs or anything, I was just curious and thought I might like it.

Definitely give it another try. Some folks take even longer than that to really come to appreciate the snus.

            tom52,

One of the problems with snus is when you first start using it the saltiness overrides many people's tastebuds so they don't fully enjoy the snus and give up on snus too early.

Well, I ordered 4 different kinds to sample:
              Catch Dry Eucalyptus
              Odens Classic Cinnamon
              Roda Lacket
              Skruf Cranberry

I have no idea if I'll like them or not.

I love the Odens Classic Cinnamon, at least the strong version, one of my main snuses these days.

The RL is nice on occasion, I actually have one in right now. The Ecalyptus is a love it or hate it kind of thing. I am on the hate it side. And many people love the Skruff Cranberry. But not everyone.

next order, I really encourage you to try some non flavored snus as well. When i first started using, I kind of figured that wouldn't be my thing but I was so wrong.

A couple of suggestions next order. VERY mild snus for you to try. Retro White and the new Camel White. Very easy to tolerate, the flavor is good, without being too strong in any way.

                  Tom,

Give us a list of your top 5 snuffs and we will try to find something comparable snus wise. Most likely it will not be a exact match but if your thing is say an SP, then Goteborg's Rape might fit the bill. If SG's Blue Crest is you thing then maybe Ettan will be to your liking and etc...

Anyway, I think that mixing it up might prove the trick. I know that come spring there are days when my sinuses play havoc with my snuff use.

It's not an easy task to pick my top 5 snuffs, as I rotate them all the time. But ones I really like are Dholakia Sparrow, and Sparrow Cool, Temptation Coffee Bite, QWS Smokers Blend, Dholakia Swiss Chocolate, and I also like fruity menthols, SPs are good too, as well as some florals, just now did a snuff of Toque Rose mixed with some Toque Menthol, which I probably should hold off on any menthols, but I like them.

i have to agree with sage here Odens Classic Cinnamon is a really good snus. it gives you a good nic kick and also tastes incredible but thats my opinon.

one witha great taste for me would be goteborgs rape #1. To me it has a strong tobacco taste but a sweet taste behind it. can't vouch for gbr #2 since i never tried it but i hear it taste like fruits of sorts.

best thing to do is try diffrent brands and see what you like. after awile i accuired a liking to some snus that i didnt like at first like Ettan but now i can't get enough

Tom given the wide range of your preferences I think a sample pack from Northener is the best way to go

Ettan and Grov will go with the sparrow (though Sparrow is a bit spicier)

Kronan and Goteborg's Rape will go will with the florals (though not an exact match)

General and Granit more SPish (with bergamot and citrus)

To me Oden’s classic has a subtle taste of Eucalyptus

Mind you none of these are snuff in snus form but I think you will find something you like.

My advice is to try the sample pack and stick it out for a little while.

Kind of the same thing we would tell someone who is new to snuff- the initial nose burn sneezing, etc will subside and then one day you will taste it. Same with snus.

                          Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. I got 4 cans on the way, so I wanna see how that goes 1st.

Oh gawd! I guess I am a weakling when it comes to oral tobacco. I must say I not a dipper or regular user. But I had this urge to try some pouch snuff, so I walked up to the corner store to see what they had. I had the 2 Camel Snus' so I didn't want that again. So I took a chance and bought some Grizzly Mint Pouches. It's taking me a long time to even type this. Anyway, I stuck one in my mouth, upper gum like snus. Well, I didn't want to get sick, so in just a few minutes I could really feel the nic comin' on hard, so I took it out. I am really reelin' with the effect. Very strong taste, and a harshness to it. Whew! Any longer and I'd be on the floor. I am at work and my boring job makes me think of these weird things to do. Man... I can't imagine people not getting an effect off this. I wish my darn nose wasn't stopped up.... It was only 2 something dollars a can. I put it back in the can on top. I might put it in my mouth again later for a minute or 2, after this wares off. But really, as far as tobacco is concerned, I see why smoking is most popular. It doesn't stuff up your nose, and it doesn't knock you out like dip.

I put the same pouch in again later, and it had a weaker effect.

The first experience with any tobacco product is usually the strongest. The first time I smoked I got sick and puked. (Of course, I was ten years old and smoking a filterless Chesterfield, but anyway...) The first time I dipped I got a strong head rush. It wasn't there the second time. The first several times I snuffed, I had violent headaches and sneezing fits. The first time I snused I got nauseous.

But none of these virgin cherry pops were as intense as the second or third go-rounds. A month from now when your body has accepted and craves these new forms of nicotine absorption, you'll be laughing about your initial sissy stage.
