Haven't seen them. Curious to see what they're about.
My sister-in-law gave me a can of these she'd got for free and she didn't like them.

I didn't either. They're like mini-sized Commit lozenges, except they dissolve into this nasty-feeling paste in your mouth.

Maybe worth trying if you have a free coupon and you're really, really bored. But absolutely not worth paying for, and nothing to write home about either.

...wait, what? The original Camel "SNUS" was made in Sweden? If it's made by RJ Reynolds it's of no relation to Swedish Camel, but I wonder what the difference was between this and the new American kind?

I never tried the Swedish version, but I bet it was identical to what's available now. It was made by F&L if memory serves me.

In response to the emails I've received recently, I did a review of Camel Mellow. Not sure why people want a review of this, but here it is.

            ----
American Camel "SNUS" Mellow Review. 7 Oct 09.

            American Camel "SNUS" (Mellow) Review.

A review months in the making. I've been getting requests for this, so I figure I'd do one. Early this year, I was trying to quit smoking. Nothing was working. So I gave up. But a new discovery gave me promise of a new hope. A "new" smokeless, spitfree tobacco product called "snus". Before I switched to Swedish Snus shortly thereafter, it was always "sn-uh-s" to me. I didn't learn the correct pronunciation until I came into the good stuff. This is my first of two reviews about this product. Oddly, Camel "SNUS" (Mellow) I still like. The Frost, I can't stand it.

One thing this product has going for it is the cool tin. The oblong shaped tin is an eye catcher, and quite beautiful. It's one of a few things that this product has going for it. The portion size and shape is also great. Even now, with my love of Swedish Snus I still regard the portion comfort quite highly. Recently, Swedish Match released 0102, and I was glad to see that a Swedish company capitalized on this size.

Opening the can, the aroma is quite simply that of it's title - mellow. When you smell it, if you've ever smelled a Camel cigarette, you can pick up hints of it in this snus. Not of a cigarette, but presumably of similar tobacco, it has that Turkish tobacco smell that Camel totes as being a factor that differentiates their cigarettes from the rest. The smell is a slightly sweet, mild tobacco smell. It's very unique.

The flavor is actually pretty good. Even with the amount of Swedish Snus I use, I still keep a tin in the fridge and use a few portions a month. I compare it to a cigar, because to me, the flavor of a cigar is very mellow. And this portion is no different. The tobacco taste is very mild, sweet (not overly, but it is very pronounced), and the flavor is very mild and smooth. The flavor doesn't last that long.

Two things I want to mention about American Camel "SNUS" that have always stood out in my mind.

            1. Opening a portion of General Ekstra Sterk (left) and American Camel "SNUS" (Mellow) (right) you can see the difference. The GES (Swedish) is very moist (as you can tell by the leakage around it) and the snus is pure and sticks together well. The American Camel "SNUS" is very dry and flaky, very low grade. It looks like you've opened a cigarette and poured it out.

            2. You can't go to sleep with American Camel "SNUS" in your mouth. It's impossible. The flavor in your mouth after a few hours is so sour, you can't stand to have it in your mouth. And if you fall asleep, prepare to wake up gagging in 4-6 hours. Not that I make a habit of going to sleep with snus in, but with Swedish Snus, if I do, I don't have to worry.

Is Swedish Snus superior? Of course. Did RJ Reynolds do anything revolutionary or new? Well, not really. Outside of a great portion size that is very comfortable, they're just another brand. Is Camel "SNUS" Mellow a bad product. No. It's definitely a very occasional product, but not total garbage like it's cousin, Frost. The only good thing I can say about Camel "SNUS" American, is that it helped me on my journey to quitting smoking, and helped me discover the world of Swedish Snus, which I am proud to be a resident of.

Good review. I took a Mellow portion out of the Hell Box, and I thought it was tasty. It's really too sweet for my tastes. It's kind of like that cappuccino machine coffee at the WaWa. It tastes good, but it's just a major sugar overload. I enjoy it while drinking it, but after I'm done I wish I'd just gotten a black coffee as usual. Camel SNUS is the same way.

I still hope they make a non-sweet, or less-sweet "SNUS". Actually, to me, that was the main problem with the Camel "Snus", is it's too sweet. I think if they cut down the sweet by a half or 2/3rds, we might be singing a different tune. A slight sweet essence is usually good, but this Camel is pure candy. Ugh.

Anyone try the Tourney I put in the Hellbox?

I'd try a Robust, or an Infused Camel SNUS. I loved the Frost and Infused sig. series.

I'm sure I will too. It's new and shiny! I must have it.

I would THINK US Camel in their snus studies, do realize the use of Swedish snus amongst Americans, and with their money and influence, would try an make a snus that would appeal to the import market. I know it's business and competition, but only making a sweet candy mini, will only have a limited appeal, being there are many real snusers here in the states. It might make them try and capture this market, and I hope they really try.

I agree with what everything you said. You do realize though that most of the US doesn't realize that there is Swedish snus out there, right?

When I say I use "snus" they automatically associate it with that Camel stuff. "Oh, yeah, the Camel sn-uh-s, right?" No, no, no.

While true, we are growing pretty fast. The vets say it was dead around here a year or two ago. Then the Camel users rushed in, and just in the last few weeks, I can't count how many times I've typed Welcome to Snuson.

The majority of Average Joes, I agree, more than likely does not know of Swedish snus, but, I think RJR knows of Swedish snus, and they know General has fridges in American cigar shops, and they know Americans use it.
