Made a pit-stop in Orlando, FL on my way home today. Had some lunch with some friends, then stopped off to get gas and realized that they had this crap. I have never used any snus other than stuff ordered from Sweden, so I bought a can of each flavor to review.
Cost per can: ~$5
20 portions per can (they look to be dry mini white portions)
First overall impression: I kinda like the embossed metal tins, remind me of an altoids box. The portions are pretty nice quality. The material seems to be on par with some of the better Swedish portions.
Now, onto the snus:
First was the Frost:
I used 2 portions due to their size and my usual snus consumption. Upon opening the tin, I was blindsided by the smell of mint. I was not expecting them to smell that strong. Once in my mouth, it took a few min to start to taste anything other than the overpowering mint smell. Shortly thereafter, I was nailed by the artificial sweetner taste. At this point I was ready to give up. There was no tobacco taste whatsoever, and the artificial sweetner was disgustingly overpowering. I stuck it out, and after about 30 mins, the artificial sweetner taste subsided a bit and the taste took on a whole new aspect. AThe mint flavor took on a nice mellow flavor and had almost a creamy nature to it. Once it reached this point, I can say I truly enjoyed it. The portions were completely spent after roughly 1.5 hours.
Frost verdict: Terribly fake sweetner taste for the first while, then tolerable (if not somewhat enjoyable) for the remainder.
Next I opened the Spice:
The immediate smell that hits you when you open the can is that of Cloves and cinnamon. I used to love the occasional clove smoke, so I figured that these may be somewhat more enjoyable than the frost. WRONG! The clove and cinnamon tastes ARE there, however, completely buried under that same horrible artifical sweetner as the frost. The same thing happened with these ones. After roughly 30 min, the artificial sweetner subsided a bit, and the cinnamon/clove flavor was there at the surface. I felt like it should have been christmas for some reason. The combination of tastes was interesting at best.
Spice verdict: If you like cinnamon and cloves soaked in sweet & low, you will probably love this
And lastly (and by far the least) were the Original portions:
The smell of these portions reminds me of Grizzly Natural (some of the cheapest moist snuff available in the US). Once I popped a couple of these portions in, I was disgusted yet again by that terrible artificial sweetner. Ther was actually a noticable salt content in the original portions, and the tobacco taste was mildly detectable. The only way I can even try to describe how these tasted is as-follows: Take some tea bags, sun-brew some unsweet tea. Take your tea and sweeten it with sweet&low, then drink it with a lip full of grizzly natural.
Original verdict: I think I would rather use toilet paper made out of fire ant stingers before using another portion of camel original.
Nicotine delivery was not too bad from two portions at one time. Did not make my head spin, nor did it leave me feeling like I needed more.
Nicotine verdict: About average
I'm sure I just posted what many have already posted, but I felt like I should share my findings. I feel like I should have taken the $15 and paid a homeless man to punch me in the face repeatedly. It would have been a better investment than this stuff. The only thing I could ever see this stuff good for is opening peoples eyes to Swedish snus.
