Made a pit-stop in Orlando, FL on my way home today. Had some lunch with some friends, then stopped off to get gas and realized that they had this crap. I have never used any snus other than stuff ordered from Sweden, so I bought a can of each flavor to review.

    Cost per can: ~$5
20 portions per can (they look to be dry mini white portions)

First overall impression: I kinda like the embossed metal tins, remind me of an altoids box. The portions are pretty nice quality. The material seems to be on par with some of the better Swedish portions.

    Now, onto the snus:

    First was the Frost:

I used 2 portions due to their size and my usual snus consumption. Upon opening the tin, I was blindsided by the smell of mint. I was not expecting them to smell that strong. Once in my mouth, it took a few min to start to taste anything other than the overpowering mint smell. Shortly thereafter, I was nailed by the artificial sweetner taste. At this point I was ready to give up. There was no tobacco taste whatsoever, and the artificial sweetner was disgustingly overpowering. I stuck it out, and after about 30 mins, the artificial sweetner taste subsided a bit and the taste took on a whole new aspect. AThe mint flavor took on a nice mellow flavor and had almost a creamy nature to it. Once it reached this point, I can say I truly enjoyed it. The portions were completely spent after roughly 1.5 hours.

Frost verdict: Terribly fake sweetner taste for the first while, then tolerable (if not somewhat enjoyable) for the remainder.

    Next I opened the Spice:

The immediate smell that hits you when you open the can is that of Cloves and cinnamon. I used to love the occasional clove smoke, so I figured that these may be somewhat more enjoyable than the frost. WRONG! The clove and cinnamon tastes ARE there, however, completely buried under that same horrible artifical sweetner as the frost. The same thing happened with these ones. After roughly 30 min, the artificial sweetner subsided a bit, and the cinnamon/clove flavor was there at the surface. I felt like it should have been christmas for some reason. The combination of tastes was interesting at best.

Spice verdict: If you like cinnamon and cloves soaked in sweet & low, you will probably love this

And lastly (and by far the least) were the Original portions:

The smell of these portions reminds me of Grizzly Natural (some of the cheapest moist snuff available in the US). Once I popped a couple of these portions in, I was disgusted yet again by that terrible artificial sweetner. Ther was actually a noticable salt content in the original portions, and the tobacco taste was mildly detectable. The only way I can even try to describe how these tasted is as-follows: Take some tea bags, sun-brew some unsweet tea. Take your tea and sweeten it with sweet&low, then drink it with a lip full of grizzly natural.

Original verdict: I think I would rather use toilet paper made out of fire ant stingers before using another portion of camel original.

Nicotine delivery was not too bad from two portions at one time. Did not make my head spin, nor did it leave me feeling like I needed more.

    Nicotine verdict: About average

I'm sure I just posted what many have already posted, but I felt like I should share my findings. I feel like I should have taken the $15 and paid a homeless man to punch me in the face repeatedly. It would have been a better investment than this stuff. The only thing I could ever see this stuff good for is opening peoples eyes to Swedish snus.

that shit is made in sweden by swedish match. they must be trying to smear the name of snus or something. if they were smart they would just sell swedish snus and be the sole distributor. im sure they could buy out swedish match with their quarterly earnings.

thanks for the review. a agree that it sucks.

I use American dip from time to time. I bought a few cans of the new Skoal Edge bold wintergreen the other day, really good stuff. I also picked up a can of Timberwolf Straight. I usually dip Timberwolf if I'm not snussing because it's made by Swedish match...but I have to admit this skoal edge is really good.

Thanks for the review, I was thinking about trying this, but I think I'll just save my money for the real thing.

I agree, but american tobacco could never have been accused of overestimating americans intellegence or taste. (4 out of 5 doctors smoke camels!!)
Just judging from the reviews, it seems to me that they are either targeting kids or, as you said, trying to ruin the reputation of snus so that people will smoke anyway. Or it could be that they really are stupid, but with american corporations, I think that "Never assume malice when stupidity is sufficient to explain it" might be better reversed.

I have to admit. Since I paid for the stuff, I am still using it now and again. The artificial sweetner taste is way overpowering, mut the more portions of this stuf I go through, the less I notice that taste. Similar to a new snuser tasting nothing but salt i guess.

I have read several posts where people talk about that aspartame taste in wise portions. I would be willing to bet that the sweet flavoring used in this camel snus is on-par with that.

I still cant stand the original portions (see above review), but I am actually quite enjoying the frost(peppermint with a somewhat cream taste). The spice isnt something I would buy again, but the clove/cinamon taste is growing on me.

Just the mention of clove/cinnamon has me dreaming about Gotlands Julesnus  Still have a tin of the loose tucked away - it's so good, shame they only make it at christmas time.

Interesting how you say that. I have never had Julesnus, but in my review I said how the spice flavor tasted like christmas!.

Now you have me looking forward to the end of the year! I would love a clove/cinnamon snusin a loose form

I've never tried any of the American market snus but I have to say lucky strike snus is really nice. Great flavour, nicotine and tin

Does anyone know where and who produces lucky strikes as it seems a v. swedish product (i know BAT owns the brand). The only information I could find was that a British company made the machine that hermetically seals the tins. Yay go Britain.

Lucky Strike is produced by F&L, which, BAT recently purchased after using them to make their snus for some time. (multi-billion euro deal)

I tried to make SWMBO happy by getting rid of the nicotine monkey on my back, but all it led to was odd feelings of restlessness and eating a lot of Easter chocolate. Decided I needed a nicotine band-aid, so I tided myself over with some Skoal mint, but I really try to avoid dip these days.

Great timing by Marlboro, though. Indiana was the test market for Taboka, and I bet I went through 6 or 8 of those slide-packs and I don't think I ever paid for a single one. They just kept sending me coupons for free packs, and I'd use the coupons between overseas orders or whenever the coupons were about to expire. Even ended up throwing some coupons away. Anyway, they day I ran out of Skoal last week, I got a mailing from Taboka with 2 coupons for a free slide-pack of Marlboro Snus. Got two more coupons, this time in a Marlboro Snus mailing, the same day I placed me recent order from BuySnus.

For those of you who haven't tried it, it appears to have replaced Taboka, and the packaging (except for the label) is identical. Instead of 2 flavors, they have 4. I've tried Spice and Rich. If you liked Taboka, you'll probably like these. As for me, they taste way too strong and are way too small/stiff. I don't like the idea of a "flavor strip" in the portions. I tore a portion open, and it's basically like a Listerine quick-disolving strip wrapped around the tiny bit of bone-dry tobacco. Stuck just the strip in my mouth, and it instantly turned into an intensely flavored blob of goop.

The flavors are ok, though, if you like the strong flavors. The Rich reminded me of congac, and the Spice tasted srongly of clove and other spices. The original Taboka tasted to me like maple syrup... I actually really liked that flavor. That may be what the Mild Marlboro snus tastes like, too, but I haven't tried it yet.

Until the flavor strips soften and start to dissolve, the portions feel very stiff to me and scratch my lip. I also generally have to put in two portions at once to feel satisfied (still no buzz), so the packs don't last very long for me.

That flavor strip ranks as one of the stupidest ideas ever. Maybe they needed to find a use for all the irregular/substandard Listerine strips they can't legally sell otherwise.

Edit: And now that my paranoia is kicking in, I bet, if these really are as bad as most say, that this is an attempt to poison the snus market in America. To create an unfavorable opinion linked to the word "snus", so that people will stay away from that evil Swedish product which is trying to crush the cigarette business.

I think that BAT should try selling Lucky Strike snus in America (Would they be able to, since RJR owns the name here?). By using a familiar brand name, I'm sure that people would be more likely to try it, rather than the Camel and Marlboro rubbish.

I had a look at the RJR site and it says that camel is one of their 'supported brands' whilst lucky strike is not.

Non support-brands are generally small-share brands, but have very loyal adult smokers who purchase them. Therefore, even though R.J. Reynolds will not provide marketing support for these brands, the company will maintain the brands' distribution where there is consumer demand.
                              Wikipedia also says

In late 2006 both the Full Flavored and Light filtered varieties of Lucky Strike cigarettes were discontinued in North America. However, Lucky Strike will continue to have marketing and distribution support in territories controlled by British American Tobacco as a global drive brand. In addition, R.J. Reynolds continues to market the original, non-filter Lucky Strikes in the United States
It doesn't look like America will get LS snus unless BAT markets them there. But don't fret over here in the EU all snus is illegal

It's funny how 'An American Original' is barely available in America.
