So am I the only crazy that enjoys American Camel snus?

I ask, because I want to get opinions as to some more of the Swedish stuff to try.

Call me crazy, but I like the dryness of the American Camel snus (I absolutely hate the juices from snus, so the dryer it starts out, the longer it lasts me), I like the flavor (the "mellow" specifically), and I like how the nicotine doesn't hit me like a brick.

I HAVE tried a couple Swedish cans:
-Goat Rape White portion. Hated it, too "flowery"
-Jakkobsons Ice-Fruit. Tasted good, but too much nicotine for me. Literally made me sick (and I had been smoking for a good while before this)
-General Ice-Mint. Delicious. Aftertaste was too toothpasty for me, though.

Any suggestions as to what kind of snus I should try?

I liked it at first, but I tried to finish a can after I bought some swedish snus and I wasn't able to go back to it. It tasted artificial. It was that diet soda, aspartame taste. I guess I didn't notice it before.

As for suggestions, you should give Thunder Frosted a try. The nicotine might be a little much for you, but you should like the taste.

If you are new to snus it's best to start with the best sellers, (they are best sellers for a reason).

        General Original White Portion
        Ettan White Potion
        Skruf White Portion

          Lucky Strike White
          Camel (Non american) White
and my all time favorite -Retro white

And to answer your question, no, nothing wrong with preferring American Camel if that is what it comes down to. Snus so individual, there is no right or wrong. Like what you like, even if the rest of us laugh a bit. I mean we ALL laugh and PP's strange tastes.

          BUT....

From what you described, you sound like you would really prefer whites. Much drier than regular portions. So...you at least need to try a bunch of GOOD whites. See lists above.

Jakkobsen isn't very strong, so you're probably best bet is a small portion. If I were you, I'd order a bunch of and see what sticks.

If it's like Gotland snus, it's a touch stronger than avg. at 9mg per gram. I've found that Gotland snuses make me hiccup more than other brands which would indicate a stronger snus. Maybe the nicotine's more readily available than other brands?

You got some good suggestions for white portions above. It's hard to say what you'll find enjoyable, so it's best to try them all. Nothing will be like Camel. The Swedes don't make anything that sweet. The closest would be Triumph, the American brand by Swedish Match. If it isn't sold locally, you can get from Northerner. Also, as Sage said, there's nothing wrong with Camel. If that's what you like, use it. If you really want to switch, I'd suggest dropping the Camel completely for awhile. It's a flavor/sweetness explosion, and all the Swedish makes will appear lacking in comparison. The Swedish Brands are much more subtle, and it takes time to appreciate the nuances.

              Edit:
              fix screwed up quote

I'll admit that I do like the Camel Frost, but once my remaining 2 cans are gone I probably won't get any more. The Discreet snus are alot better in my opinion though, along with the General Mini Mint if you like the minty flavors.

If you want a decent minty los to try, Offroad Icemint is actually pretty good...it's the portions that are a little light on flavor to me.

Nothing wrong with liking the American Camel snus. I have lots of friends who like the stuff. Most of them have tried the real Swedish stuff that I've given them and enjoyed it, but still stick with the American Camel due to the ease of getting it and the discounts often offered at stores around here.

However, absolutely none of them enjoy the Marlboro snus. I refuse to try it. My friend bought some for 89 cents a while back and I looked at it. The flavor strip thing repulses me. I refuse to even try it. Apparently it tastes wretched. Said friend threw out the tin after trying one portion. I didn't try to stop him. He bummed my Grov white until we went to go grab a six-pack, then bought some Camel and seemed content.

If you're sensitive to juices, and nicotine, you might look into some mini-portions...

There's nothing wrong with liking Camel. I actually liked the Original Camel but the Mellow really tastes too much like candy for me. I also don't like the lack of nicotine.

Really anxious to find out what this snus is all about.
In a way it´s a shame I cant get it locally but maybe in due time it will make its way all the way to this lil country

                            Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

I'm willing to try anything regardless of nicotine content (the whole Jakkobsons-making-me-sick incident was last year, so maybe after a whole extra year of trying every tobacco product I could find, I might be able to handle it better!)

To the person who suggested the Triumph, I forgot to mention that was my first snus. I really enjoy the mint flavor, but I hate the aftertaste and it runs too quickly to enjoy at work >.>

I won't be able to order until September when I am back out of my parents house again (as I won't ever be able to explain to them why I am doing smokeless tobacco, even if snus is safer than most).

One last question: I want to try los snus, and a tobacco shop near my college campus is selling General. I know it's one of the most popular, but how good is it?

I's the standard. If snus came in a white can, and just said "snus" on the side with black letters, it would taste like General :^D (you might be a little young for that reference :^D)

It's a medium grind, moderately salty, a bit of citrus, and a little smoke in the back. I like it, but there's others of the same vein I prefer(Granit, Gustavus). It's definitely worth a try, and along with Ettan, I consider a must buy for any snuser, both in lös form. Ettan because it's the oldest name in snus, and General because it's the most popular by a huge margin.
