    Re: Snus Salt Content

Most snus contains ~3-5% salt. So a one gram portion or pris would contain about 30-50 mg. of sodium. The added sodium carbonate might add a bit more sodium. Fairly negligible unless one snuses a whole lot or is on a very sodium restricted diet. So Veganpunk is right, snus is probably about the same as a can of soda per portion.

Of course I'm just guesstimating, if anyone has better info on actual sodium content that would be interesting.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

"It was suggested that snus' effects on blood pressure may be related to its sodium content (1.3–3.5% sodium chloride and 1.5–3.5% sodium bicarbonate)."

this is really the only thing that i've found, so you're very close if this is true.

              snus and salt

I am worried about the salt and blood pressure as well but I think that the potential benefits of not smoking will outweigh those risks.

Thanks for that, I was worried it was gonna be huge amounts as portions can taste really salty but those numbers don't really seem high enough to worry about.

I can now snus free of worry!

                    Welcome to Snuson Santafechestnutred

Most important question... How long have you been using Swedish snus?? Reason I ask is that the salt, for 99% of the folks out there, is only an issue your first two weeks or so. Just takes that long for the body to acclimate to the salt. After that, you hardly will taste it at all.

Ao if you have just started, please just be patient, as the salt taste will quickly almost completely recede.

Now if you have been using several montha, I must let others answer your question as no snus really tastes salty to me any more, so I have no idea which ones start out with less.

Actually, I think you should try something that is less "crap" than phantom.

As for actual salt content, I'm not sure, but flavoured snus, like Thunder Frosted (just one example among many) tend to not taste salty.

For actual salt content i believe Ettan portion is the lowest at only 2% salt. most others (including Ettan lös) are closer to 5%

                        **EDIT**
Should point out i was talking about the "traditional"kinds of snus. Im pretty sure the purified portions like Wise (now Oomph, what a dumb name) dont have any salt as far as i know.

not sure if anyone mentioned it, but placement in the lip is important too... if th portions are too far back then you'll get briny tobbaco juice rather than a nice flavor....

I think there is couple of reasons to put salt in snus. Firstly it enchanges the preservation and the snus quality and secondly its for the better nicotine kick. Personally i dislike too salty snuses. I think the sugar has the same feature because i is very usual in baking things etc.

Thanks for the info guys....I Have been enjoying snus for about 3 years...I quit smoking with it .....I had tried patches and gum but snus made it easy to quit...I have transfered one addiction for another but I can walk up stairs now and not be out of breath...I have tried many kinds of snus and enjoy them all(except phantom) but I am trying to limit my salt intake (For health and taste)...My faves are Ettan and Oden (Not stark).... I love the Gote Rape and herbal flavors...Used to love the LD Juniper....... General seems too peppery....Is there a place where the salt % content is listed?...Thanks again I enjoy reading all the posts.....

Northerner lists the salt content of most of the snus they sell.
