    Newb Question

Well my sampler came in and I cracked open the General portion and I have to admit, I wasn't that impressed (only tried pouch so far) The taste reminded me of a salty tea bag...now I'm used to the Camel Frost pouches which are almost like mint gum.

Anyway, my question is...when you guys snus do you just put it in your lip and leave it alone? Or do you move it every once in a while w/ your tongue?? The Frost was so tastey that I played with it in my upper lip, but if I'm a newb trying to get used to the real snus taste, I'm thinking it may be beneficial to just "set it and forget it"

    Any suggestions??

    HJ,

I'll let the portioners advise about moving or setting the portion but I think you'll find that most do a little of both (set at first, hit it with the tongue every now and then, then eventually move it around).

What I want to add is to give the flavor thing time. It takes a while with many brand to be able to detect the subtle flavor, especially if you are coming from American tobacco products.

Just about everyone stars off tasting only salt at first. Give it time, try a variety (some brands are more up front flavor- wise). Your taste will quickly acclimate. Also remember that in a few months (4 or so) you will want to go back and revisit brands you wrote off and give them another try.

Anyway hope this helps and glad your order came- have a blast

HJ, you are normal. The hundreds and hundreds that have come hrough here as they made the switch from Camel to Swedish had he exact same reaction. For 90%+, it took about a week for them to acclimate to the salt, before they could really begin to taste snus for what it really is.

Just be patient, keep using, just a week or so.

As the others before me have staed, you will get used to the salt and eventually won't notice it as much, if at all. One snus that seems to have very little salt taste is General Dry mini mint. However, it's not available in regular sized portions. It may be closer to the Camel that you were using. I've never tried the Camel snus though, so I can't say for certain.

I just put a Tourney Original Snus(made in Sweden, bought at local Speedway, sale 2 for $4.19), and it's really not bad. If I only had this, I'd could be OK with it. It's WAY better than Camel's faux "snus". It's even salty. I didn't get the Mint and Wintergreen, but now I wish I did, just to try them, but I'll pick them up next time I see a Speedway.

I use portions, and usually leave it alone, apart from squeezing my lip now and again, and after a while(I always leave them if much longer than 30 mins, usually an hour and a half), I will pull it out, put it on my tounge and switch sides.

I constantly play with portions, and lös. I press them with my lip and tongue to get more flavor, and suck on portions.

joe, what sage said. as you get acclimatised to snus, you'll just end up naturally moving the snus around in your mouth or not. you'll see.

I had the same problem, the way I overcame it was by only using white portions. Try that. Stay away from original for a little bit.

Hey Tom, You may want to contact NicotineRush to see if he'd be interested in carrying your snus. The proprietors name is Tom also, and he's a pretty good guy. He deals in nasal snuff, specializing in the American brands. Maybe you could hook him up with a bunch of free samples, and he could in turn give them to his customers. That would help get your brand out there. There's already some crossover between snus and snuff users, and there's some curiosity from the snuff side.

Since your product doesn't need refrigeration, your product could be more reliably stocked without the potential stock loss you get with Swedish made snus.
