    Snubie

    Hi all,
Just wanted to introduce myself after some extensive lurking. You all seem very friendly and knowledgable!

I'm probably the typical story - smoker, went through 2 cans of Camel Frost before finding the real deal. I smoked an occasional clove in college - maybe a pack/week, then ran out and had a regular cigarette one night. Then it was about a pack/day for 6-7 years. Mix in a cigar (usually Partagas) every few weeks too. I quit when my daughter was born 9 months ago, but would have some when out on weekends and not around her. Very bad. My wife, strangely, can handle the on/off again style like that, but I couldn't.

I started smoking cloves again at the rate of a pack every 3 days or so. Never around my daughter. Finally I reached the point where I just couldn't stand the whole mouthwash/brushing/washing hands/changing clothes routine, and quit cold turkey. About 3 days in I was having a bad fit, and was in line at a store to buy a pack of cloves, but decided to buy a tin of Camel Frost instead. That was ultimately a great decision. That was about a week and one sampler order ago. So keep that in mind when looking at my tastes. Maybe they will be useful to other snubies.

    Anyways, I have tried:

General white mini mint - My first Swedish snus. Good, what Camel Frost should be IMHO. I like the smaller size in my mouth, but which it had the hit of an 8mg. I'm a sucker for peppermint flavor though - candy, schnapps, tea...

General white portion - good, and I'm trying to use this as my yardstick to compare with the other non-mint/flavor portions. I feel this is the one I'm most familiar with right now. The first 3-4 seemed OMG  salty, and I generally don't like salt in anything, but you were all right. It got much better after a few days once my mouth adjusted. This is my "regular" right now while I try others.

General Onyx - woah. Juices up very fast for me at this point. After the initial couple minute flow of pepper, I do like it a lot. Had one the other night after a few beers, and was great. Compliments good beer instead of interfering like the more lemony white portion. Maybe this will be my drinking snus. Have one in my mouth right now, and the initial shock is still a bit too much. I have a funny feeling that I'd like this better if it was in a white portion (drier). It seems to shoot it's flavor load in the first 10 minutes then become much more subtle.

Goteborg's Rape #2 - had three of these today. Very yummy. Not too wet/runny. Take the general white, subtract a bit of salt and the lemon, add a touch of some kind of berry flavor. I think I like this even better than the gen white.

Jacobson's (sp?) Icefruit - meh. Had a couple over the weekend, and they didn't seem to have much of any kind of flavor. I'll have to revisit this one.

General wintergreen - A nice mix up from the mini mint. Seems to be different in that the wintergreen flavor diminishes slowly, and a more regular flavor emerges. I think that's a good thing that it adds complexity. The mini mint on the other hand seems to be consistent in taste beginning to end.

In my fridge but not tried/opened:
    Mocca pomegranate
    Offroad Icemint
    Catch white eucalyptus mini
    Grovsnus white portion
    Gotlandsnus green

I'll be bugging you with many questions over the next several days I'm sure. Right now I have to hit the sack though.

    Welcome tool!!

It looks like you got some good ones there. 1 small correction... Onyx is a white portion. The material's black, but a white it is :^D The flavor does kind of come on strong. It was a big favorite of mine when I started. I don't use portions much anymore, but I still dig the occasional Onyx.

Welcome to the forum tool77 and congrats on kicking the cigs. Please feel free to ask questions and also to share your experienses. I think its a big help for newbies to have the perspective of both the old veterins as well as those who are just starting out.

Anyway great first post and great selection thus far. You might want to try some Retro White, Gotlands Gul (yellow), and Thunder frosted minis

      Enjoy the adventure

        Welcome to SnusOn!

        Nice post, very thorough.

You seem like a natural to me. Snus was made for you.

A year from now I can see you as either hillbillying OES or spreading the good word of Retro whites. Who knows, maybe the next Phantom Lord.

        Enjoy your new journey and

        Watch out for PP!

welcome tool! my friend just quit smoking 3 days ago, he's using the general mini mint solution. he was over this evening and we were drinking beers and playing guitars and he said when he drinks he really wants to smoke a cig so i gave him some of my "treated" (secret recipie TM ) thunder frosted. he's gonna order some of that. it kicks ass.

you are to be commended for quitting smoking, especially when you have done it for your child. you're rocking dude.

            Mocca pomegranate
            jfc!

*man, i'll never learn all this stuff... *

            welcome again!

I have to point out you mentioned pepper with the General Onyx. I'm not sure what it is about General's strong brands, but I've had more than just (and me) say that they taste pepper when they've first used it.

I no longer taste any 'peppery' taste at all with the Onyx or the Sterk. But when people try it for the first time, they always say it's too peppery. It's really weird. I just thought I'd point that out. :P

That mocca pomegranite, I think, is actually a pretty good flavor. It's a pretty strong flowery/berry/perfume-y flavor, but pretty good. I'd love that stuff in a regular portion size for a once-in-a-while snus. I had to put 2 in at a time when I had them.

What is it about Onyx that does that? I feel like it takes an hour worth's of flavor, but spits it all out as 10 minutes of concentrated juice... really wish there was extended release Onyx. In the pharma industry we'd call it Onyx XR.

Right now I pop the portion in my mouth and use my tongue to shove it in place. I'm guessing this is why I like the drier portions? Gives me some time to get situated and comfortable before the show. 8)

Thanks Snusdog. I've read about the thunder frosted, and have already decided to get some for my next order. What are the Retro White and Gotlands Gul like?

OES? Probably some kind of los? I'm afraid to try los at this point. My wife thinks snus is weird enough as is, los would probably drive her over the edge.

                    PP? :?:

                      Welcome to the forum.

Of what you have, Grovsnus White is my favorite. I could actually have that be my all exclusive snus.

OK, I'm leaving for a week vacation Sat morning, and am going to try one last order before I leave. Here's what's in my cart and why:

Ettan White (read this is the most plane Jane tobacco flavor)
Goteborgs No. 2, 5 pack (current favorite, want to restock)
Goteborgs White Portion (I love #2, so have to try this)
General Mini White (Like the regular size, want to have something non-mint in a mini)
Roda Lacket White Portion (sounds interesting)
Grovsnus Black (an alternative to the Onyx?)
                        Gotlandssnus Classic (Yellow) (was recommended)
                        Skruf Cranberry Portion (pure curiosity)
Thunder Frosted Portion (mini mint taken up a few notches I hope)

If I were to buy one can of los and a prismaster, what would you recommend?

I love Ettan White, I would not call it "plane jane" at all. It is robust a full favored IMO. I could easily have that as my 1 exclusive snus and be happy.

Goteborg (1) is not like No.2 at all, 2 is like a berry with a slight sweetiness, regular Goteborg is more like a standard snus, and very good.

I need to revistid Roda Lacket. it was one of my 1st snus', before I became acclimated to snus.

Skruf Cranberry(Tranbar) is OK, but for me, not a rebuy, at least not as I write this.

Thunder Frosted is also available as a mini, but with full size nic. To me, it's better than General mini mint, because it's more subtle flavor and not so sweet. But if you want a strong flavor, I think General mini mint is stronger flavor than Thunder Frosted mini.

                          The rest, I haven't had.

Oh, as for Los, I really liked Ettan and Grov.

Tool, you sound just like me. I started on cloves in college, graduated to Camel Turkish blend, and had to quit when my daughter was born 3 months ago. At the time I quit cigs, I was a pretty light smoker, so it wasn't too bad, but I snuck cigarettes now and again and had to do the change clothes, brush teeth thing, feeling really guilty.

I quit with e-cigs, but snus gives a different nic rush/mellow, so I use both. I just stopped lurking recently too. Welcome to the forum.
