Ok so there not that old school, but they are older then 2004. I used to find them when I lived in New Orleans in 1999-2000. I think they were called Camel Spice. (I was pretty intoxicated during the NO days)

When I was a wee lad in the backwoods of Kentucky they still had candy cigs, only I "smoked" the camel knock-off. They even had little red tips! But no smiley flip top

My parents wouldn't let me "smoke" candy cigarettes.....I'm sure a lot of parents weren't that cool with them. My dad had quit smoking not too long before, and he didn't want me anywhere near even the fake ones. Ironic how easy it was to find the real ones a few years later.
Heh, these posts remind me of this:

Kids these days.....they'll smoke anything that will stay lit; even things you don't even have to light. :?

I'm "old school", not Black Sabbath old school, but The Pretenders and The Clash old school, and proud of it. That was a cool time, I miss it.
But, I remember candy cigs, the hard candy one, slim with a red tip, came in mock cig packs, and step up was the bubble gum cigs, that were more real, with a stick of similar to cig gum with a paper wrap, white, with a brown filter, in a mock cig box. You could even blow through these and produce some sugar dust smoke.
