    new to snus

I recently received my first order of the swedish match white portion sample pack with a can of skruf stark and general onyx (just to mix it up). This is the first time I've ever seen a whole can freshly opened and I have a question. I was surprised to see that all the portions are packed densely together and the snus forms a tight wad in the bag. Is it preferable to use the snus the way it comes in the portion or to loosen it up a bit prior? I find that loosening it allows me to more strongly taste the flavors. Anyways, Im extremely excited to get on with the taste testing. thanks for the help

When using portions I always give them a bit of a working to soften them up, and distribute the snus evenly. Not necessary, of course, but makes the portion sit nicely and, as you've noticed, helps release the flavour. Easy stuff this snus malarky, eh? You're a pro already! Welcome to the board, by the way - enjoy your stay 8)

I squeese it a bit and hold it by a end and shake it.
that way the snus get evenly distribute in the bag.

enjoy your snus and this forum.

I've only been snussing for a little over a month but I also redistribute my portions and shape them to suit me.

One thing I wind up doing with the portions is first gently squeezing the portion to loosen up the snus, and then I fold a corner up so that it doesn't show on my teeth. That's just what works for me.

If there's one thing I've learned so far, it's that snus is an intensely personal experience. You can pick up pointers and ideas from others, but the real joy of it is finding out what works best for you and enjoying it.

Well, just to be contrary to everybody else, I put the portions in as they come from the package :P I will eventually redistribute the snus after it's been in my mouth awhile. I wait until it's thoroughly moistened, then squash it out with my tongue. I also don't have a fixed place I put it. I prefer the upper right corner of my mouth, but I'll move it around to the 4 quadrants, as well as dead center top and bottom. Eventually, when it's almost finished, I'll use my teeth like a strainer and suck the rest of the flavor out of the bag. On of these days I'll end up putting a hole in the bag and have brown gunk all over my mouth

You sir, are way more hardcore than I

Also, I think this is a great topic. I never really tried messing with the pouches and loosening up the snus. Three portions into this new technique, I've found that it makes a huge difference in taste delivery and also comfort from less lumps and a softer portion. I'm sold!

I also work the portion over a bit to "un-clump" and evenly distribute the tobacco, and then fold it in half length-wise.

Once they're in my mouth, they stay put. I occassionally tighten my mouth to juice them a bit, but I basically leave it alone.

Well I'm a bit like lxskllr, I usually pop one in right out of the freezer..the way it comes out of the can...all deformed, hard and cold

it's like an ice cube and has sort of an aching sensation to it since it's hard and cold.

after I've had one in for a while and the flavor/nicotine is diminishing...i take it out, grab both ends of the bag and fluff it like a pillow, roll it in my fingers a little bit to rearrange the tobacco to release whatever it has left...then pop it back in...or i'll just take it out of my lip with my tongue, gently tumble it with my front teeth to get it rustled and pop it back into place.
