New here and a first snus order

    A little history...

I started smoking when I was 14, went to military school at 16 where I learned the joys of dipping. Quit dipping at 20, started smoking again, and swapped to dipping at 30.

Now I collect cigars, and smoke a few here and there, and still dip Copenhagen Long Cut, with an occasional foray to Skoal flavors like citrus, apple, etc..etc...

Now I do enjoy my Cope LC, but my fiancee not so much. She was rather enamored by the camel snus, which I did try and found to taste like saccharine, much like ACID cigars...so I have decided to give snus a shot...after emailing back and forth with a guy who recommended BuySnus.com, here is what I ordered:

5 random cans of whatever (plus one free after my order)
    Elixyr Power Energy portion
    General ONYX portion
    Granit Maxi Portion
    Goteborgs Rape' loose
    Odens Extra Strong Portion
    Thunder Frosted Extra Strong Portion

Hopefully this will give me a good mixture to discover what I like...any suggestions on something I could add to the next order?

    First, welcome to Snuson rowdymon.

Smart girlfriend you have there. I expect you will always be grateful to her that she pushed you a bit this direction.

Order is very good, you have a good mix with some sterk's and extra sterks.

A couple of other favorites of mine are retro, Lucky Strike, and Swedish Camel. I would suggest next order you mix it up and try both some regulars and white portions. The whites are dryer, a bit more muted in taste, not nearly as juicy, and last longer. i am a white fan, Retro Whit and Camel Whit are two of my most favorite snus.

One bit of warning about Elyxr. And I am Snuson's chief Elyxr pimp. Strange taste, not to be used like a regular snus, really only use it to wake yourself up. I think it is fantastically effective, have been using it since it was released some 18 months ago or so. But I warn folks, it taste's like a**.

Know that it tastes funny and use it for it's effects only, you will be fine. But please don't come back complaining about the taste, you have been warned.

    And welcome again!!

I had read that about the quicker pepper upper snus'...

I ordered it more for gatherings we have at our house for movie nights. We typically BBQ, drink some, and watch movies until the sun comes up...I have a tendency to dip quite a lot when tired, so I figured this would work for me two fold, and be something nice I can grab early in the AM when work beckons...

But thank you for the warning, and yes, I did want to try out some whites and such, I'll keep those suggestions in mind when I order again, I am kind of kicking myself for not going ahead and getting some of the Lucky's on this order..

        Welcome rowdymon!

Few months in myself and already on the 6th order to find my wings. I ordered the Elixyr as well and fully intend to blame sage if I should hurl! As so many have said and I'm discovering quickly, tastes change pretty dramatically in the first few months(and years it looks like) so be warned. You'll need to clear some freezer and fridge space soon lol. My wife doesn't seem to mind one bit as she's just happy to not be kissin and ashtray(her words)

I did hours or reading and research and can't say enough about this particular forum. Read em all and keep coming back here. Great people and great advise to be found with nearly no judgement

        FWIW...my favs so far:
Odens ES Kanel...cinnamon..but very subtle(flavor anyway..Nic hits hard)
Claq Qui...lil dried fruit maybe..but really good!
Thunder Frosted...my pallette cleanser..nice mint but not too sweet at all..also a big nic hit

I'm obviously on the stronger portions as the cigs are leaving my life, but I'm sampling many and someday will develop a regular rotation.

          Laugh...freezer space is no problem...

As I said I collect and smoke cigars (I collect them to smoke them...eventually), so currently I have about 2500 including a long term storage in a thermoelectric fridge for aging...

I've got a drink fridge in the garage that has such a beautiful empty freezer space...and I have no qualms about ordering snus in large quantities, once I get an idea of where I want to go...I figure 13 cans should give me a good idea of which ones I should order next (although my fiancee is really wanting me to lean towards portions...no dip turds is her goal).

So until this order comes in, I've got 4 cans of Cope LC to tide me over, and maybe a few stogies...although with Houston Heat...cigar smoking is more of a winter sport for me...

One last point I want to make here. It is fairly typical for new users still breaking from cigarettes to use mostly sterks. I did, from 1 - 4 months of my snus usage. Eventually, I very easily made the transition to mostly regulars, now using sterks maybe 20 -40% if the snus I use, just depending on the day and my mood.

And definitely get Retro White next order, just my all time favorite snus. But you really do have a decent order already, a good initial cross section. But do include some regular strength snus next order as well.

Now I just feel inadequate with my ziploc in the fridge door LOL. Course with all the money I'm saving not smoking, I'll have to convince the Wife that I need a SubZero in the garage.

I say easier to ask for forgiveness rather than beg for permission...

Don't forget you need a good vacuum sealer as well....*grin*

Ok, I'll add some regulars on the next one...there will be some fruity as well, just for some addition...

I figure I can blow about 50 a week until I find my groove thing...

Now I would not recommend stockpiling 100's of cans, esp when new, and not even sure you'll take to it. I didn't take to it at first, quit and came back to try again a few months later. That time I did take to it. As a new person, I'd pick less than 20 cans of a variety to try out. Also keep in mind that it takes a good week of regular daily use to become acclimated to snus taste.

oh yea..commercial grade....hmmm....I'm thinking and addition on the house. The "snus" room. Wallpaper the room with empty cans. seperate fridge for white and portioned of course. Hmm...what else does it need? Putting the word out for architectural bids I think.....or a psychologist might be more appropriate.

Don't listen to him, you won't be a "real" snuser until you have at least 90 cans in the freezer.

Seriously, I spend about $100 every two months to feed my habit, a bit more if I am adding excess to my inventory. But have normalized my usage to 8 regulars and 4 sterk's a day, that works out perfectly 1 can every other day, so 15 cans a month. I now order at least 30 cans every two months.

                          Welcome to Snuson :^)

Your first order looks good. Here's a few suggestions for your next order...

                          Gotland Yellow
                          Grov
                          LD
Like licorice? If so, LD Black, Gotland Grey, Offroad licorice lös

Ok ok...I may have left off with the wrong impression...

I'm not going to willy nilly order a bunch of stuff, I just figured I'll get in the cans I've ordered, probably in another 5 or 6 days, try one can out for a snus or two, and then trade them out of the fridge...and try to figure out a few things about what I like, and then do a little more research.

In my budget I have $50 for tobacco products per week..I'm stocked up well on cigars, am hoping to leave Cope LC by the wayside with snus, if for no other reason than occasionally I need to give into my finacee's whims or she thinks I don't listen to her...or maybe it's just that I'm brow beat and don't want to hear the 'ewwwwwwwww' noise anymore when she looks over and sees the inside of a dip cup.

At this point I dip on occasion because I feel a need for nicotine, rather for a need of oral addiction. If I can use chewing gum to push that off, I can use snus just as easy. Going to be a factor of finding the ones I like. I figure that will take some experimentation...and that will require a fiscal investment.

I'm not shying away, but I'm not looking to completely throw away my money either...*laugh*. But I have no doubt once I get into my groove with snus I'll be one of those with 90+ cans in the freezer and 5 or 6 open as I rotate through them.

The ones I get and really can't stand...well I'll figure out something to do with them, I'm sure there are some folks out there who wouldn't mind a one out can as a gift right?

Thank you to everyone for your warm welcome, and the many suggestions...I'm keeping note of them...I promise...

Welcome to the forum rowdymon. Glad to have you. I too came to snus by way of dipping and have never looked back. I think you will find this forum both very informative and a whole lot of fun. There are a lot of great folks here who are very knowledgeable.

Also, a while back I posted a thread especially for dippers. It's called "A dipper's Guide to Snus". Rather than repeat it all here, I'll just provide the link. You can check it out if you would like.
