i can honestly say ive had nothing that is highly comparable to retro. i cant even describe whats different about it, its just awesome.

although i do love general, ive never had the whites, but the regular portions are a snus that i can have any time without disappointment. ITS THE ONE TASTE, MAN.

Unfortunately, I have been losing a bit of faith in Camel as have used much lately. Typical for just about every snus I ever had OTHER than Retro white.
So I need to see if I can find something even closer than Camel. Another White I really can use day in and day out.
But if I must, then a combination of Camel and Lucky Strike I do know would be close. I suspect if I split the duty between the two of them, they could hold up like retro did at least.
But this lawyer crap, coming the same &^%$ day I learned about Retro, was really just too cruel. I know I can find them both still. I have had numerous private messages pointing exactly where to go. But the problem Larry, is for how long??? Just no way I can base my regular portions, the ones I use all the time on Snus that could get yanked away from me at the stroke of a lawyers nasty letter. It seems like too much of a PITA to chase that. I don't want the bother and I don't want the stress.
So I search for something else. It should at least be a broadening journey for me, so if I have to do it, I might as well make a big deal and have some fun with it.
And I really would like to see you here more often. You have much to add. I just prefer this context to others. This is home, this is where I am comfortable. I do hope you stick around here more when you can.
And btw, I saw the pics from your trip. Wow, you must have had such an amazing time.
I did find a can of Retro White in my freezer. It was frozen well before the expiration date. If you'd like it, email me or PM me at SC....I see those daily. On the other hand, it's just putting of the inevitable by one can so maybe it's time to let go.....your call.

As the the $^%#* Lawyers, I blame them less than their Masters in Big Tobacco. Instead of concentrating on making a better, Real Snus product, they eliminate anything which can highlight the inferiority of the crap they pass off as snus.

I could go on about THAT subject, but I'm trying to write shorter forum posts .

I'll pop on here as time allows for people like you, Sage, who is always interesting and informative. I have my home now too but there is nothing wrong with a weekend getaway....

I just want you to know how pleased I am to see you here. but understand you have a busy life with many other obligations.

It looks like I am set with Retro now, assuming i get what I have been told I will. Just got my first Retro rescue today.

So, hold on to that snus, use that snus, enjoy that snus. Give retro the proper send off it so deserves.

            Granit White

So I had some great hopes for this. I really liked the regular Granit I had a month ago or so I got From Box Pass I. And Granit is made by the same folks who make Retro.

But as a replacement for Retro?? Sorry, I must give it a failure.

Firts thing that happens when I put it in is I notice a sharp, citrusy flavor. Not that is a bad thing, but it is more flavor than I am looking for. Again, as I have posted so often, Retro white is the perfect balance of flavor with nothing being overpowering at all. The whole reason I can use it all the time.

What is so strange is I don't remember this from the regular Granit. And I usually assume that the White is a more muted version of the regular. But at least from memory, and I will confirm this i a few weeks, Granit regular is less sharp of flavor than it's white brother.

It stays reasonable well, but can get a bit bitter at times. I find with more use, I am keeping it in a bit longer. And will say I have liked it a bit more the more I used.

But still, I don't think it is what I am looking for as a replacement to Retro.

But on it's own, this is a fine snus. And for the price, I think it is an excellent snus. I like everything Flsnus does

Next contender will be reviewed in about a week - Phantom White

Before Retro became extinct, I started looking for something similar. I gave Justin a heads up on LD regular portions. They are a suitable, yet not a completely sufficient replacement for Retro. Why are they a suitable replacement but not sufficient? First, the good: they taste a lot like Retro. The bad: 1) they are not as juicy nor is the flavor as complex and 2) the flavor does not last nearly as long, maybe about 3/4 the length as Retro. Maybe if I soak a can of LD portion in a little water it may perform the same as Retro. Yet you love the whites like I love the regular... maybe the LD white portion will be a surprise for you. Again, it might not be but it might be the closest you come.

As I look at what the possibilities are, LD White is at the top of my list. I might get the regular LD too just to check it out.

Funny, I have mde some peace with the idea that I won't find something with a flavor as complex as Retro. And that s a big part of my love for it. But the biggest thing for me is to find a snus I can use day in and day out. If it isn't as complex, if it doesn't last as long, Ican accept that

Hopefully, after seeing your other post, Once day we can laugh at all our running around in a tizzy. Hopefully.

Grov white, sage, grov white. I don't mean to repeat myself, but if memory serves me well, Retro white reminded me of a mix of grov white and LS white. Just my 2 cents. Although I've only had 1 can of retro white, so obviously not enough time to give it a fair shake.

Grove white is another strong hopeful. except I have tried it before and seem to remember I wasn't impressed. But tastes change and I have a super open mind right now. I promise I will give it a fair hearing.

Grov white is something I always have at least one roll of in the freezer. Like you said in the OP about retro it is the only snus that has never "turned" on me in the least. As far as replacing retro... it obviously doesn't taste the same but I definitely think it could serve as a replacement in terms of not getting nasty after a while of consistent use.

                          Sage,

What about Tre Ankare? Have you given it any consideration?

I think I have a can here someplace. A snus I have every 6 months or so. But I remember it as being distinctly flavored, thus it wouldn't even qualify for the trial. I love *most* flavored snus....sometimes. But never an everyday kinda thing.

Maybe I will think different about it when I get around to opening the can I have, we shall see.

And sm0ke42o, agree, why it is towards the top of my strong possibilities list. In the end, I am OK with different if it is something that stays stable for me.

Just some background for folks not fully familiar with my snus experience.

There was a day when I so loved Nick & Johnny. It was my favorite snus above all snus, I used it more and more. And then BAM, one day, I suddenly hated it. My first experience with what can happen when you use a snus too much. Over the next 6 months, several others that I started to use a lot turned on me too, thus why I so fell in love when I finally found Retro and it didn't turn..

It just is a rare, rare thing to have a snus I can always depend on. Any snus that does that trick is a good snus to me....

Tre Ankare really reminded me of the taste of sweet iced tea. It was good, but got old after a few days.

Absolutely Tom. I liked it, will get it again in a few months, but was real glad when I finished my can today...

OK, so I want to do an initial mention of my next replacement candidate, Phantom White.

Normally, I really want to wait until I finished a can to do my reviews. But Phantom has struck me so well on first taste, I had to talk about bit sooner. I had had this one previous time, but wasn't paying it any real attention then as I am now.

So on first taste, this is a real mild snus. Not as bad as Skruff white, but a tad more mild than even Retro. But it still has a distinct taste!! This is really a big deal with me. Reason I always loved Retro was I thought it achieved the perfect balance between mild and still having a yummy distinct taste. Phantom seems a bit different. But I don't need the exact flavor profile as Retro as having something I both like and find interesting.

And at first taste, I find the Phantom White interesting.

At 30 minutes, it seems to turn a bit harder than Retro. But no where near the edge of what I like to tolerate. I suppose this will be something I really pay attention to as I use more this week. And especially compare it directly over and over with Retro. By the time I get to number 20, how close to the edge of my toleration does it get??

Again, I will do a full review when I finish the can. So much can happen in 24 portions. But at least at first impression, I fully expect Phantom to make it into round 2. More in about 6 days.
