R.J. Reynolds HATES us

I am VERY upset with the recent news that Lucky Strike and Camel (Swedish) snus can't be imported into America for personal use. This snus is not being marketed in America, nor is it being advertised in any way. The market for importing Swedish snus is minuscule compared to the American snus market. Why is R.J. Reynolds limiting American consumers from enjoying wonderful Swedish snus? Oh, perhaps its corporate greed. I'm sick of the American tobacco industry. This recent event is what really broke the Camel's back (no pun intended). :twisted:

I hope we all can put some petition together to allow us to import these brands for personal use. We are not harming the American snus industry at all. BAT and F&L are NOT advertising these snus brands anywhere near North America.

This is an issue about consumer's rights. We have the RIGHT to import any product for personal consumption, regardless of the trademark on the packaging.

I hope www.snuscentral.org publishes an in-depth article about this mess soon.

RJ is obligated to protect their trademarks. if they don't then they could lose them.

I'm fairly upset with how they've treated the Lucky Strike brand in general. one of the most storied names in tobacco is now a 'non support' brand in the states. something that can only be found tucked away to the edges of the cigarette selection.

i don't want to rant about cigs too much, this is a snus board.

RJ can't let BAT sell tobacco products under the names Lucky Strike or Camel. Even indirectly.

It's a tough situation. selling swedish camel snus could confuse the consumer. especially since the concept of snus is new to most Americans. selling lucky strike snus in the states would also be problematic since they will not support that brand with ANY ad money in the states.

so we're kinda stuck here.

If BAT could rebrand it under another name that they have the rights to distribute in the states then we could buy it. maybe Dunhill? 555?

Geoff, I know what you're saying, but Camel (SE) and Lucky Strike are not being marketed at ALL in America by BAT. The importation for personal consumption in no way harms the profits of R.J. Reynolds. When a product is imported from another country to an individual, there are no laws that prohibit the transaction, as long as the substance is compliant with American laws.

Perhaps there was an agreement between BAT and R.J. Reynolds behind closed doors? The legality of importing a trademarked product for personal consumption does not meet the legal means for barring a product for importation into another country.

For example, its perfectly legal to purchase Benson & Hedges cigarettes in Canada at a duty-free shop and bring them back to America, even though the "brand" is NOT marketed by Philip Morris USA in Canada.

It makes me sad. I just got my first can of Camel White, and I freaking love it. I hope they repackage it as something else. I can just keep reusing my Camel can. RJR marketing research has probably been lurking on sites just like one, and has read all of the praise for Swedish Camel, and discontent for SNUS. We probably hurt their feelings.

I encountered that "not for sale to America" notice this morning. Ouch. I had tried both Swedish Camel products, regular and white, shortly after they became available, and did not like either of them. But Lucky Strike was a regular, repeat go-to buy every time I ordered. Just good tobacco taste, along the lines of Ettan to me. Lucky Strike will be missed.

That sucks. I just heard about this now. I recently got a tin of Lucky Strike in a trade and I love it. It's my favorite snus atm. And everyone says it's really salty, but it doesn't taste all that salty to me. I loves me some salt.
