When I was in boot camp ('94), no tobacco of any kind was allowed as far as recruits were concerned. You weren't really supposed to have it while on liberty either, but of course that was a little hard to enforce.

We just paid off the guy who filled up the soda machines in the lounge to bring us in smokes/dip. Then we'd just wait until the company commanders left for the day, and stand right outside the door in the back courtyard of the barracks to smoke.

This was Great Lakes in the middle of winter with below-zero wind chill factors, though......so that, on top of risking getting busted did not make smoking all that appealing anyway.

I second what Jason said. In my boot camp days tobacco was strictly forbidden. I had OSUT so I never had AIT but I don't think tobacco is permitted in any training barracks. Oh trust me they will know exactly what you do or do not have.

Good luck with the quitting friend, hope all goes well for you.

When I was in the army ten years ago luckily we could snus atleast, hell even the officers bummed sometimes.
A military snusban wouldn´t do well here.
