Dipping my toes into the los pool

I was reading the reviews of the new Catch Violet Licorice (or something along those lines) and it sounded so good that I had to make an order. My wife is going to give me a hard time because I have so many cans in the fridge and freezer now, but that's beside the point.

Not only am I trying the Catch, but I threw in a can of RL los and Ettan los. The RL because I know it's easy to bake and the Ettan because I like the portions and have heard good things about the los. I got a prismaster, too. I'm really excited to try los, but my wife already thinks that portions are weird and once she sees the los, she's going to flip. Oh well, she doesn't understand that there are differences. It's my life goal to get her to try it.

I'm also trying Thunder frosted minis, Taboca, and Mocca pomegranite for the first time. I need some extra strength minis!

Now to sit back and wait for my order to ship.

I've been trying to get my wife to try it too. She had a General Dry Mini Mint a few months ago, and hated it. Now that I have Discreet, I'm gonna try again. Have fun with Los, I loved it from the first pris. My advice with the prismaster is to handbake it a little after making it with the prismaster. The first time I tried the master, it worked for a little while, and then it was a mudslide.

Thunder Frosted Mini is good if you want a strong mini.
I love Mocca Pomegranate, it has such a great taste.

Also, buy an Icetool. I wish I had one when I first started los, because the prismaster was more frustrating than it was helpful. It almost makes you want to give up because it makes crappy portions.

I just can't justify spending so much on an icetool. I'll only be lossing at home after work probably once, maybe twice a night. So while I'm sure it would make everything much easier, right now it's not worth $45 for what use I'll get out of it. If I end up lossing for the rest of my life, maybe I'll get one.

And who knows? Maybe I'm like Sage and won't like it. Then I'd have to make tiny cookie logs with my icetool. Actually...those might be good.

At some point you might want to check out “The Dippers Guide to Snus”. It has a lot of helpful posts about breaking into the world of los from a lot of different folks (even if you never dipped).

One point: while Roda and Ettan are easy to bake, they also tend to be milder in flavor. This may be an adjustment coming from portions. Also the extremely fine grind (especially of the Roda) means that while it is easy to bake it can also go to mush on you if you are not careful. Now I love both of these brands and use them regularly but I usually advise newcomers to los not to begin with them (you will definitely want to try them but just not at first).

Now that said, I realize that you have already placed your order. No worries both brands are really good and the chances are that you will really really like them. The main thing is just to know what to expect or better, not to base your los expectations on past portion experience. Go in with an open mind. However, if in the remote chance they do fall flat or give you some trouble, don’t write the whole los venture off. Try a couple of the brands you see recommended on the guide and plan to go back and revisit the Roda and Ettan in the future. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info Snusdog. I didn't think about the pris falling apart easier in my mouth with a finer cut. Oh well. I don't really have expectations, I'm just experimenting. I'll get a different brand now and again whenever I'm low on los. I see it as a fun challenge rather than a big part of my snus life. I have a scientific mind, so my technique will change a lot as I get better with it, and I'll be having fun even when failing miserably. These two cans will probably last me months too, because as I said I'll only probably bake 1-2 small pris a day. I'll have to get my apple slices ready because I'm sure they'll dry out with such little use
