I've not been smoking cigarettes since May of '08, but my quit contract didn't say anything about cigars.

Sagedil and Roo both gave me some good advice, and I now enjoy a small Montecristo cigarillo once or twice a week. It gives the same pleasure and the flavor is very rich and satisfying. Of course, I also entertain a nice stogie every other month, or sometimes even longer. Whenever the mood strikes me.

Still smokin'.............but nowhere near as much as I used to. I was puffing over two packs a day, now (after a brief period of not smoking at all) I average around 3/4 of a pack or less per day. Not too bad for someone with extremely weak will power and a hardcore addiction.

I have lost the urge to buy cigarettes and spending $5-6 for a pack makes about as much sense to me as sitting here and burning one dollar bills.

Like the Sage, I have total control now.

I quit a couple of years ago and aside from a 3 month stressfull period where I was back on 'em by 'need', I now am fully able to smoke only when I want to.

I enjoy a nice cuban every now and then, and if I have a heavy weekend on the drink with the boys then I can smoke a couple of packs and really enjoy it, then back on the snus with no craving afterwards.

As the man says, why deny a pleasure when you are in total control?

I'm currently on day 5 without a cigarette by using the Camel snus (US version). They seem to be a little on the weak side but get me over the hump when those nic cravings hit. The hardest part so far has been getting over the physical habit of stepping out for a smoke.

I'm still awaiting my top 10 box from Northerner to arrive to give the Swedish variety a try. I figure if I'm getting by on the Camels, I should be in pretty good shape with the real stuff.

However, tonight will be my first night at the bar since I've ditched the smokes. Drinking and smoking go hand-in-hand for me, so my 5 day streak may be reset come tomorrow...

Update: Smoke free Day 6 - Snus order was waiting for me in the mailbox when I got home from work yesterday. Decided to start with a can of Grov white and headed out the the bar. The strength of the real stuff really did the trick - was surrounded by smokers and it didn't even phase me.

I actually quit snusing and started smoking again. I always liked smoking while drinking anyway.

Can't snus anymore. I quit for like a week, then whenever I did it, it tasted horrible and made me feel sick. Oh well, no more brown teeth.

                        Sigg,

What I did when I quit was that I allowed myself a weekend pack of cigarettes. when that weekend pack was gone I'd have to wait until the next weekend. You just have to promise yourself that you only buy One pack and when they are gone no more till next weekend.

It was a natural evolution, as time went on that weekend pack evolved into one every two weeks, then one every month, then one every two months.

The last I had a cigarette it tasted absolutely vile to me. It was my favorite brand, too. Looks like I've won the war! Good luck to those who haven't quit completely yet.

I don't think anyone likes the taste of tobacco (hence menthol cigarettes, flavored snus, etc). Tobacco doesn't taste good.

justin - I had thought about doing something very similar and just buying a pack on bar night. However, I knew I would be tempted to light up afterwords if I had a pack laying around the house. This may eventually change the longer I'm away for the cigs, but I think for this beginning stage "out of sight, out of mind" seems to work for me.

Kvlt - I literally just started snusing with the real stuff so my experience is next to nil - just Grov and Gote so far, but I love the natural tobacco flavor. It's a very welcome change from the overpowering flavor of the Camel Frosts I was using.

I smoked maybe 3 cigs last night, but the Eclipse cigs. Snussed also.

I prefer tobacco flavor, well, I don't know how much straight tobacco it is I am tasting, as snus all seem different.
