Hell, even just a few months ago online is old news now. The superinformation highway only has fast lanes.

I use giganews on a regular basis for tv and movies. You can't beat the download speed of usenet and there is no worrying about pesky lawsuits for filesharing. I remember when it was mostly for news/chat. Kind of like when MTV was about music.

I logged on to the the net in 1997, mIRC, 14.4 k modems and Packard Hell

I beat you. first modem was 2400. I got a 14.4 as a birthday present from my father-in-law right after I showed up in town, was the best birthday present I ever had. LOL

Giganews is good too, I just am an Easynews fan. I am not patient enough to get TV off usenet. I am a bittorent fan for that.

Will ONLY use usent to get mp3's though, just too hot to do otherwise.

I discovered usenet in 95, found the alt.drug groups. was a year later when I learned about warez. Was in a software vendor forum on AOL (The first Bryce for Windows). The first version sold was so bad, simply didn't work, and we had to wait a couple of months to get the fix, so was hanging out on the vendor forum a bunch. Someone posted a question that made it clear they had gotten an unreleased alpha version, and the company rep went on to bitch about the "warez" world. Huge mistake he made

I went on to become about as addictive about warez as I am about snus now. Literally, had millions of dollars of software I never used collected and neatly labeled. I even had a copy of a Japanese word processing program that only worked in Japanese Windows 95. But when someone asked, and I was able to provide, thought I was just the total bomb

Found MP3's within 2 weeks of the mp3 format's invention. But Napster brought too much attention to copyright issues. And eventually, found a usenet group to DL music videos, and went that direction. At least I watched the music videos I collected.

Ah, the days. I still have every message I ever posted. Will be funny one day to go back and see what I wrote 20 years ago

Ok I gotta comment to this one. Back in the *cough* Day...My dad was working in IT and to keep my occupied when i went with him to work he had a phonelist of BBS numbers that were actually games. God I used to spend hours inside a cubicle playing that stuff. Ahh memories...Something about a dragon that was drawn out of colourful X's and O's and I's lol god if I could only find a screenshot of that. Of course then came along something evil called Yahoo and I.M.ing and I never looked back.

Dude, BBS's had the first online games. I was quite fond of Legend of the Red Dragon and TradeWars 2002.
