Dip will hit you faster, since you're supposed to use your bottom lip. There are no saliva-producing glands in your upper lip, so the "hit" takes a bit longer compared to dip.

yeah, but what if you bottom lip your snus?

IMO It does seem to hit faster and stronger but doesn't last as long, at least I think it does. I bottom lip more than 50% of the time, if I'm outside, or it's convenient to spit, I dip it, but I pop it back up top before going into a building, or around lots of people cause the gross factor. But it does for sure seem to get to me faster, and a little stronger, but it only lasts half the time.

You will receive the nicotine at a faster rate from any tobacco if you bottom lip it. Another variant that differentiates dip and snus is the way its cut. Long cut and fine cut dip is less dense than snus. The nicotine from dip is faster because the saliva carries the nicotine to the oral mucosa much faster. The way dip is cut also makes the nicotine hit faster, since saliva can penetrate deeper into the tobacco.

That is a very good point snusjuice. I think you might be on to something with the whole cut thing- which makes me wonder if the way we bake snus (verses just tossing it in like dip) does not explain something of the slower but more even nic release in snus. The same idea would apply. A tighter bake (like a denser cut) means saliva cannot penetrate the tobacco as thoroughly or as quickly as it does with dip.
