    HELP with a big PROBLEM

Hey everyone , I am having a problem over here that I was hoping you guys might be able to help me with . ...

I just got a call from my bank , card fraud service division , and someone made 2 purchase/debits on my card , for $744 and $778 . ( I want to be 100% clear that I am not blaming any snus retailers ) . The transactions were listed as MOOBI NORWAY AS .

I was hoping some of you could be so kind as to check and see if you might recognize this from your previous transaction , even though I doubt it . Only reason I think it might be snus related is all I have bought online in the past few months is snus , and a MP3 player for my kid from Tigerdirect . That , and its out of Norway . ( maybe some of our Scandinavian members may have seen this before or have heard of it ? )

Anyways , heads up , keep an eye out on your accounts for this . These posted this morning . They were processed or charged this morning as well .

I have virus software running as we speak , my gut tells me its a keylogger .

Thanks for any help my fellow snus lovers . It is greatly appreciated !!

I want to state again that I am in no way blaming any of the snus retailers for this .

Re: HELP with a big PROBLEM

Seems like a keylogger would make sense. Unless you've been buying cell phones from Norway, definitely looks like identity theft to me.

My parents had a similar problem a few months back.... Turned out to be a trojan in their case. They lost several hundred dollars as well. Except when they took the PC in to have it professionally "cleaned" the tech effectively burned out their HDD motor.

My questions would be what's your OS, which browser do you use, and are you firewalled with something more than windows built-in (in the event you're using MS Win).

My recommendations would be either switch to something virus proof (linux) or foritfy your system with a 3rd party firewall like ZoneAlarm and run Firefox (if you don't already).

Another thought.... Is your PC attached to a router with a built-in firewall?

I'm under the impression that if you use a credit card you are only out $50 and credit card company will eat the rest (at least mine will). If you use a debit card you are SOL for the entire amount. This is why I never use my debit card on-line.

I know this doesn't help now, but wanted to make sure everyone knows the difference.

Hopefully they haven't shipped the stuff yet. Good Luck again!

This happened to us, with an order for a t shirt and some stickers, of all ridiculous things. We spent 15 dollars and then our bank up and calls, asks how we spent 20 at a gas station in southern Alabama and 367 at a Circuit City in New York. We had to agree to press charges against the culprit if they ever found them, but we got our money back. Mr S. is right, definitely use a credit card over the interwebs, and thanks for the heads up.

My bank acknowledges that this is fraud and has started there investigation . I was there this morning , waiting for the doors to open , and they assure me that I should have my moneys back in 7 days . They said this is about as clear cut of a case as it gets .

I called moobi and fumbled my way through the Norwegian automated system . The people I spoke to there claim they have no way of finding purchases with just the cc# and date of said purchases . Which is total bullshit , they just don't want to spend the time doing it . They keep telling me that my name is not in there system . No shit sherlock .......

I have a call in with the Norwegian Economic Crime Unit . They were somewhat helpful to my surprise .

I had to call the FTC , and they told me this is Identity theft . So , fraud watches had to be placed on my ss# with trans union . And I have to file a police report for identity theft .

Come to find out , "they" tried to charge an 800 dollar purchase through moobi 3 more times but were declined . Then "they" tried to access balance info on the card number twice but were denied . Hats off to my bank for catching this within minutes of the initial 2 charges being completed .

Anyone want to go to Sweden with me for a snus run and make a "quick stop" in Oslo , Norway ?

I wonder if they have ever seen an enraged , pissed off American with cigarette withdrawls ????  :P

                        Wow that sucks man

A bit too late but here is my recommendation for anti-keylogging software - Keyscrambler (Free for home use. Premium version is available)

                        http://www.qfxsoftware.com/index.html

                        http://lifehacker.com/396511/keyscra...ser-keystrokes

It basically encrypts your key strokes so even if a logger got past your AV it would just get incorrect data. Otherwise look into these

                        http://lifehacker.com/378822/anti-ke...passwords-safe

                        http://lifehacker.com/364143/avoid-k...-neos-safekeys

Also consider switching to a new AV. Personally I only rate ESET (NOD32). Small footprint and very good protection.

Ps: I also switched to using a prepay credit card for web transactions or the new paypal plugin that generates CC numbers for single transactions. Paranoid? Me? Never...
