    Un-Lucky News (RE: Lucky Strike)

A whaile back, several of us wrote Lucky Strike (BAT) asking them to consider other ways to keep Lucky available for sale to the USA.

Here is the response I got back from them

    Thank you for you e-mail!

There is no conflict over the brand name, but it is a bit complicated.
Lucky Strike in Sweden is owned by British America Tobacco and in the US
the brand is owned by RJ Reynolds. We have never exported the Lucky
Strike Snus due to the above ownership, but web shops have.

This is no longer tolerated and that is why the Lucky Strike snus is not
sold over the net to the US anymore.

I am sorry I don´t have better news for you. I hope you will find a
    good substitue along the way.

    All the best!

Does not look good. Does not look like they want to fool with finding alternate solutions

That is sad. Maybe if snus sales escalate in the U.S. they might consider it.

Just clearly shows how indifferent they are to the US market compared to Swedish Match.

I like poking fun at them cause they are so big. And I, admittedly, don't even use any of their products, only recently decided that General was "good enough" if I had to.

But we should really both notice and give them credit for how seriously they are eying our market. As I posted in another thread, the US market was cited as a huge part of their most recent profit statement. Something like a 21% growth in the US Market for them?? The have employees dedicated to answering questions here. they Are the ONLY company to respond about our fears about the PACT Act and reassure us they were both watching and making plans should it come to pass.

Truly, as sad as I am to see other Swedish snus companies just brush us off like we don't matter. Lets both be grateful the BIG one doesn't, and keep encouraging them to continue on the path they are on

V2 is the only other company trying to do same in their small way (Notice v2 really the only other company besides SM at Getsnus) Lets just make sure we don't forget who are real friends are.

It's a stretch, but if I win the big lottery at some point, I will buy Luckies, and personally deliver a roll to whoever wants one. (and again and again if need be.)

So there is some upside to all this. :?

Before I get my hopes up I have to ask ... you actually do play the lottery, right?

Maybe the letter should go to RJR? Sounds like they are the grand asshats
                  for all this.

It would be great if RJR and SM could strike a deal so that RJR could distribute the product in the US and they could split the take. I'm sure the profit potential is too small for them to even bother. If only some enterprising entrepreneur could find a way . . .

                      Letters to tobacco companies

If you're going to write a letter to anyone, it should be RJR. They managed to quash Camel (JTI) and LS in one fell swoop. Also, BAT has a stake in RJR through Brown and Williamson, for what it's worth.

Best solution? Pressure Northerner and Buysnus to let a few out the door once in a while. When I ran Taboca, I knew (from this forum) that they were throwing a few cans of MC and R&J to the US despite the promise that they wouldn't. They'd turn the tap on for a few days, and then shut it off. And no one is in violation. I would simply remind them, and they'd stop.

Believe me, at the end of this year, BAT, JTI, Taboca and Skruf will be looking to shove as much product across the line as possible. The 'net shops will be overloaded.

                      Good time for a leak!

                            Who is aj01

My name is Andrew Romeo. I ran Gallaher Sweden in 2005-6 after multi-year stints in Russia and Poland, and created and launched the snus version(s) of LD (l was on the LD cigarette creative team in Russia in 1998), actively involved in flavors and pouch colors. Plus, we did some work on Gustavus as well.

When Gallaher was bought, I did 1 1/2 years of consulting as acting MD Scandinavia for Taboca AS.

                            Now, I blog on www.snuscentral.org.

                            http://www.snuscentral.org/snusnus/a...rspective.html

and I was interviewed for today's NY Times article on Camel snus.

                            http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/22/bu...sq=snus&st=cse

And I am in the market for the next opportunity, but snus is too much fun to ignore!

Headquartered in Malmö, Sweden, Fielder & Lundgren is probably the oldest snus manufacturing name in Sweden. Started as a company in 1835, F & L's history has been full of name changes but one thing that has stayed consistent thru out it's 175 year existence, is it's commitment to producing quality Swedish snus.

Even though the company was started in 1835, it was Samuel Fielder who applied for permission to manufacture snus in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1785. Today, Fielder & Lundgren produces
