    Help a noob out!

I got interested in the whole snus thing, did some research and hesitated buying a can. Never smoked except for the occasional cigar and never dipped.

Broke down one day at the gas station and picked up a can of Camel Snus Mellow.

Turned out I really liked it so I decided to move up to the "real" stuff and ordered a can of Skuf tranbar and General Onyx.

Holy crap...so NOT like the Camel. Salty, strong smelling, big kick (not that that is a bad thing).

Problem is I REALLY like the sweet taste of the Camel Mellow.

Is there any Swedish snus like that? The Camel Mellow has a sweet, mild licorice taste. Haven't tried their Frost flavor.

    Thoughts & comments appreciated!

    Welcome to Snuson!!

There's nothing from Sweden that tastes like Camel. Probe would be the closest, and that's a stretch. Sweden just doesn't do sweet. Some of the minis are sweetish, but still nothing like Camel. Discreet would probably be your best bet for something close to Camel.

      Welcome to SnusOn!

Sounds like you are not addicted to nicotine. I would suggest keeping it that way.

That said, you might like Discreet snus.

Or just keep at the swedish for a few weeks until your tastes change. Once they do, you will never go back to camel.

        Hi!

What Snuffy said. From bitter personal experience, most ppl are better off not messing with nicotine if they're not already addicted.

That said, the Catch mini licorice might be something to try. The General mini mints seem to me to be somewhere between real snus and the US Camel version. Definitely try Discreet. These last two contain artificial sweetener, but I would guess the US Camel does, too. I dunno.

          Welcome to the forums.

I, like you, came over from American Camel "SNUS", so I know how it is to adjust. In the beginning, I didn't like the taste of pure Swedish Snus (General, brands like that), I'm just now getting to try them. Don't rush yourself to like those, because it will come with time, I promise.

BUT don't let the scare you away from Swedish Snus. There are many brands and varieties you can try that you WILL like.

On the licorice front, I'm not too into that, but I know Offroad has a brand of it (I'm pretty sure), and Mocca I think has a mini that has Anis and a mild licorice taste, so might be something to research into.

On the terms of "sweet" snus, I tried to find snus along those lines when I started, and I haven't found much on the level of Camel "SNUS" in terms of sweetness, but you can try Discreet. It's not Swedish, but is a hell of a product and made by a great guy. GetSnus and Northerner sells them.

Brands I would suggest if you're looking for sweet, flavored snus....although not sweet, these do have a mild sweet-ISH flavor.

          General Mini Mint
          Thunder Frosted Mini
          Thunder Frosted
          Mocca Pomegranate
Triumph Mint (if you can find it)
Jakobsson's Ice Fruit (hit and miss, some like it, some don't)
          Goteborgs Rape
          Offroad Cranberry
          Oden's Kanel (Cinnamon)

Now, the one Swedish Snus that I started with that is not flavored and will help you get your way in the door of Swedish Snus is Ettan, it has a mild flavor, and it was one of the ones that I have used that has helped me work up the ladder to the ones that I couldn't stand in the beginning.

That's just my advice. My results may be different from yours, and in no way am I telling you what to do or what to order, just offering my personal experience and telling you what worked for me and me alone. In the end, it is your decision, and keeping an open mind is the best advice I can give you. SnusOn is full of some of the greatest people I know, and will be a great tool to you to help you in this process. Everyone here is very helpful, and will be around to answer any questions or offer any advice needed.

          Welcome to SnusOn!

Skruf Stark is a bit much if you like camel.

LD Black is great if you want licorice.
General Dry Mint is a good option...sweet but not too sweet and a clean mint.
Oden's Kanel is a good cinnamon.

There may be others but if you want real sweet you may need to look
at the Discreet line-up. Not a true Swedish made snus tho'.

Discreet is far too sweet for me but I'm coming from a longtime
Copenhagen habit. I believe you can get free samples at the Discreet
            website.

I would think, maybe, for a snubie just having had US Camel, the Offroad flavored line might appeal. Gen mini mint of course, and the Catch line maybe. But for me, I quickly tired of the flavored sweet(ish) snus, and prefer a more straight kind.

I'm a noob too, but (as others have said) you should definitely try out Discreet snus. They're American made but they are a quality product and come in a variety of accessible flavors. Plus you can get free samples.

As far as actual Swedish products go, I've heard good things about a lot of the mini portions (particularly those that seem to be aimed at women) as far as "starter snus" go. These don't hold a lot of appeal for me but I'm a weirdo.

                  P.S. I love your sig!

                    Welcome to the forums.

As some of the others said, if you're not addicted to nicotine don't play around with snus or any other kinds of tobacco. Chew some gum or eat a candy bar--go for a walk.

Just a word from a long time nicotine addict.

Welcome to Snus On. I can't really give any advice that hasn't already been said. I would go with Discreet though.

I was also wondering why if you're not already addicted to nicotine, why you would even want to mess with it? But as far as close to Camel Crap, General Mini Mint, and especially Discreet Emerald Ice come real close.

I guess I was just interested in what it was, what it did to/for you, etc.

The warnings are not wasted on me, they're appreciated.

There's no point in doing it if I don't like it

I know its been said many times on the boards already, but it's worth saying again.... If you aren't addicted, stop. Even snus isn't without its risks and besides, the money you spend of tobacco products could be much better spent on other things. Tobacco use is one of the few things I regret starting in my life.

In the end it's your choice, but think about it before you commit yourself to a (probable) life long addiction.
