Re: Nicotine in los
Originally posted by UlstermanI've got to share this as it's a bit of an epiphany for me.
I'm lossing with Phantom Classic Brown los and I cannot believe how good this stuff is in relation to portions.
First of all the taste is subtle, you still get the lovely taste of tobacco but it's not as in your face as portions, which is really a good thing.
Now, the nicotine delivery is stunning. The mellowness is gobsmacking.
On yesterdays night shift I was portioning all night and then decided to throw up a los. I sat down in the chair on the internet and within half an hour I was asleep and lucid dreaming. I can never sleep on a night shift.
I've got one in now and I'm so chilled I can't get up.
With portions the nicotine hit is like an alert feeling whilst los is very soporiphic, deep and almost psychoactive.
As you can see, I'm pretty impressed and can see me lossing much more than portions which is strange as I hated los when I first tried it.
I'm just surprised by the huge difference in nicotine delivery and the effects of.

What I have done recently, that seems to be working well, since I haven't been using Los much, is I took an empty can, an Ettan Original Portion in my case, and have a can of Roda Lacket Los, I had baked about 6 pris, kinda similar in shape to US Camel portions, long thin maybe an 1/8in thick, rectangles, and put them in the empty can. I find it easy to have them ready. The hard part is getting it in without it breaking, but I just now did one, and it worked fine.

Check out this thread along the same lines:

Hi guys,
I actually turned to professor Lars Erik Rutqvist our Vice President of Scientific Affairs (also my office neigbour) for this one.
"It is correct that a consumer typically extracts more nicotine from loose snus compared to the same product in pouches. In this context it is important to understand that the proportion of nicotine extracted from all snus products is relatively low, typically only c. 20%, and varies considerably between individuals. The exact mechanisms behind these phenomena are not fully known. Part of the explanation is probably how individual consumers manipulate the snus in their mouth, and that the pouch material to some extent prevents contact between the snus, the saliva, and the oral mucosa."
From personal experience I also get more of a "kick" from loose.

Joakim

More mystery:
http://ntr.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/ntp118v1
Andersson et al. reported no difference in the 24-hr systemic dose of nicotine and metabolites (as measured by urinary excretion) or in the saliva cotinine levels of loose and pouched snus users. In contrast, in the same study, Andersson et al. reported that loose snus users extracted twice as much nicotine from loose than from pouched snus. Andersson et al. explained the discrepancy between the amount extracted and the actual uptake of nicotine by suggesting that loose users spit or swallow much more saliva than users of portion-bag snus. Clearly, further work is required to understand the extractability and bioavailability of nicotine from different snus styles.

If it was psychoactive, it would be illegal.. Like Cocaine and Meth.
