Two new ideas for the snus community.

So I've been thinking about the snus community and I would like to hear what you guys think about some ideas I had.

The first idea is about appreciating snus. Basically, I think that there could be a philosophy for using snus that emphasizes the pleasure of snus that goes beyond simply fulfilling a need for nicotine. Though snus is a great way to quit smoking cigarettes I think that limiting snus to being an alternative to cigarette addiction is selling this time honored product short. Cigarettes are probably the worst form of tobacco ever imagined and they certainly do not emphasize the wonderful flavors that tobacco offers. I propose that if snus users can impose a limit on their use then it could be appreciated as a luxury just like cigars, fine spirits, fine foods...etc. Personally, I limit myself to 2 cups of coffee a day, 1-2 stiff drinks per day, 1 cigar per week, and 1 snus after each meal. If anyone else would like to take on this type of philosophy I would be willing to make up a nifty badge for our signatures to represent your love for snus and your resistance to the mundane.

The second Idea I had was for a DIY box pass. I think that making or flavoring your own snus could be a great hobby for a community like this and could eventually influence the snus industry in a democratic way. We could then have a box pass where we could share and rate all of our concoctions and work as a group on finding the most successful techniques for producing small batch snus, kinda like the micro-brew industry that has become so popular in the states. If this idea would have a few interested members I would also make a nifty little badge for our signatures.

Just wanted to get some ideas out there. I'm not trying to be an elitist or stop anyone from enjoying snus the way everyone has been for so long. I just think that there could be another level to snus and more ways of looking at it. Feel free to say these ideas are stupid. I wont be offended.

I enjoy and savor the flavor of snus, like a fine wine. But I'm not gonna lie, I depend on snus to keep me off of cigarettes.

Sure, but do you see this dependance continuing for the rest of your life. I wouldn't want to develop a hatred for snus as I did for cigarettes. To me this is a control issue and I don't like to give up control over my life. Too much control is being taken by outside forces as it is, IMO.

If there are no serious health effects with snus, then yes, I see myself using it forever. It really sucks to be dependent on nicotine, but I am. I hate myself and everything else without it. I went 4 months cold turkey back in Oct. 07 and had serious issues. I had a panic attacks, I couldn't sleep, my marriage suffered a lot, (she quit cold turkey too) I couldn't focus on anything, even just simply playing a videogame (my passion) just didn't feel worth it. The reason I ended up hating cigs. was the way they made me feel. If I stayed up drinking and smoked 2 packs, the next few days my chest would ache. Towards the end, it ached all the time. I felt like I had to quit, and snus made it easier. I don't think I could ever hate snus, unless I got some serious health problem related to it, but it's been around for so long, I think I'll be okay.

With the exception of what I edited out, I agree with everything you said.

I like the DIY Box Pass, I know alot of people have been ordering flavoring kits recently, so maybe in a month or so when this is perfected, that would be a great idea.

Right, I wasn't asking if you would use snus for the rest of your life. I meant is the reasoning for your use always going to be avoiding cigarettes? I also think that nicotine is enjoyable, but I am repulsed by the idea that nicotine would force me to do something. I have found that my self esteem is largely dependent on the amount of control that I have over my life. When I feel like I am losing control I look at it as an attack on my self esteem and it drives me to conquer it. I actually have friends that accused me of smoking for 7 years just so I could quit and rub it in their faces.

One thing this forum has done is avoided the snobbery associated with being part of a niche group. I don't want to go down that road. I think that people can enjoy snus in many different ways, whether they chain snus, or use it infrequently.

Agreed. Though I do like the flavored idea though!

Sure, I anticipated this kind of response but I'm not trying to attach any moral or social superiority to anything. This is just the way I approach snus and I think that it is an under represented way of looking at snus. Also, I don't think there is anyway of avoiding the fact that snus users are a niche group.

But, when you have an active mind you produce lots of ideas and a far less amount of good ideas. So I'm just putting them out there for debate. In a best case scenario for either of these ideas I would expect a minority of the members of snuson to be interested.

You know, I smoked two packs a day for ten years. I may be unusual in that I never regretted starting smoking and enjoyed (and savored) almost every cigarette, though I was smoking 40 times each day. There were exceptions -- like when I was in a big hurry! or if I had to buy a cheap brand -- but I always appreciated smoking.

I drink copious amounts of Diet Dr. Pepper, too, and as weird as it is, I enjoy every glass of that, too. Diluting it with ice is sacrilege!

I am most certainly very dependent on both nicotine and caffeine but I don't let that interfere with my enjoyment of tobacco and caffeinated drinks. To me, it's just a free excuse to enjoy more frequently

That said, the flavorings idea is interesting and, I think, worth pursuing.

Cool, but that's not the way it works for me. Maybe I let my aversion to dependance get in the way of enjoying things but I don't even like to have sex everyday. 2-3 times per week seems most enjoyable to me. Obviously things like this vary from person to person.

                          blasphemy!
no, i agree on this one.

i hear married couples bitching all the time about not having sex, and i'm like that's because you WORE IT OUT when you were dating. i try to not do it as much when i date someone, so if it goes anywhere it'll stay fresh.
