Tobacco Tom generously supplied me with samples of Discreet Root Beer and Swedish Style. I felt like a gimpy child who got some crutches for Christmas!
Wow... that was, er....
Anyway Discreet Root Beer came in the typical Discreet foil ziplock pack, so nothing especially glamorous about the packaging. I will say this - my samples of Discreet have NEVER dried out, refrigerated or not. The pouches stay moist, unlike the plastic tins that Swedish Match crams their products into. So, A+ for functional packaging.
Upon opening the ziplock pack, I was transported back into the days of turn-of-the-century soda fountain fantasy, where you could order a sasparilla from Ol' Cletus. You could also get syphillis from the hooker on the corner, and have to suffer with it for life because the lack of antibiotics! You may ask me what this has to do with snus. I promptly reply that I have a bit of ADHD and cannot focus on one thing for too long, and that is .....
Ahem, the taste of the product is like a concentrate of A&W Root Beer with strong tobacco notes. Discreet's nic kick is noticeable, and there is a subtle nic burn with all of their products, but not enough to detract from the giddy teenage soda fountain experience. The portion material is comfortable enough and the portion size lives up to its name. The portion is not detectable under the lip, making it great for work meetings, dates, or any other situation where you don't want a temporary lip deformity.
Swedish style is much of the same concerning nic, size and portion, with a different flavor. An honest attempt is made to capture the citrusy notes of mainstay Swedish snus, along with a hint of sweetness added which takes the experience in a different direction. Discreet is a desert snus for my tastes, and has been that way since I first tried it a few months back. It provides a nice change of pace from the not-so-sweet flavors of Euro snus.
