Help Transitioning from Icy Mint Rooster to Snuss

After reading a good portion of the SnusOn forum posts and doing some general research, I think I'm ready to take the plunge. However, I was hoping to solicit some specific advice regarding flavor.

I've been a long-time user of Icy Mint Rooster - an American dip produced by U.S. Smokeless Tobacco (which also produces Skoal and Cope). While actually a bit hard to find even here in the States, Rooster isn't technically an off-brand dip (e.g., Grizzly, Timberwolf, etc.) and has a remarkably great flavor (it's significantly better than Skoal mint, and unlike Skoal, has a very clean finish; the body is pure mint and tobacco without the "stale cheese" body of Skoal and other American dips; it's basically akin to a good mint julep but with a significant bite and a great deal of nicotine). Unfortunately, Rooster probably has the highest nitrosamine count of any American dip (and consequently, any smokeless tobacco product out there).

So, my question: after reviewing these pages, I was hard pressed to find a mint-flavored snuss product; is there such a snuss? And, has anyone who has used Icy Mint Rooster found a comparable or better snuss (given the proper predeliction of this site, I imagine the resounding response to that is that all snuss is better than American dip , but I'm hoping for some specific comparisons to mint Rooster if at all possible)?

    Cheers,

    Taylor

You might try Offroad Wintergreen (snus style or longcut) or Roots Wintergreen (portion only), perhaps Catch Eucalyptus (not mint, but more "menthol", also portion only). I think General did a mint/wintergreen to, but it may have been a temorary thing.

I've never used Rooster, but in addition to The Catch that Zero mentioned, you could try Metropol peppermint. I really like that one, but tbh I doubt it'll be like the Rooster you mentioned. I imagine Rooster is highly flavored, with a significant minty bite. If that's the case, I think I'd direct you to the Camel Frost snus. Camel's products aren't well liked around here, but I rather like the Frost due to the heavy mint taste. I doubt I'll buy it again since I prefer the Swedish brands, but I thought it was pretty good for what it was.

Yeah, Offroad is probably the closest to what I imagine american dip is like - it's got loads of flavour.

If you want a wintergreen flavor, I definitely vote for the new Offroad Longcut 'American Wintergreen'. The longcut texture may be a good transition from dip to snus and the wintergreen aroma is quite strong, it may not have the nic hit you like (I enjoy the plain Offroad Longcut, but it doesn't seem to have a lot of nicotine).

I haven't tried the wintergreen yet, and probably won't because I like a more pure tobacco taste - but it could be right up your alley, link - http://www.buysnus.com/snusbrand/Off...ntergreen.aspx

I was going to say something along the same lines, myself. Camel's products are kind of a "gateway" snus, I think... it gets Americans in the proper mindset (upper lip, spitless, etc). The flavoring, though, is really strong, as you said.

I started out on the Camel Spice and Frost, and then gravitated towards the Swedish brands, myself. I haven't looked back.

I can recommend Catch Eucalyptus, quite pronounced menthol-like flavour and long-lasting. White portions that sit quietly in your gum/lip and don't slide and slip.
