    Noobin' it up

So, got my first couple of orders from Getsnus and Northerner, and have three more orders on the way (one of which I expect to arrive tomorrow with luck).

Yep went a little sampling crazy.

So far I've had (in the order I received and tried 'em):

General Mini Mint - eh. Not a mint fan and much too weak on the nicotine. Ok, but not awesome.

Discreet (strawberry, peach, orange, grape, apple, pear, emerald ice, cool mint) - Liked the orange the best, but they're all sweeter than I prefer. Maybe it's a pH thing but I didn't seem to get much nic from these, even double barreling. Still, this made a nice transition into snusland.

General white portion - It's like salty Earl Grey! No complaints at all.

General wintergreen - Aside from the portions requiring very gentle handling, I like it. Every now and then. Reminds me of wintergreen lifesavers I ate when I was a kid. Burns like hell, but sometimes the burn just hits the spot.

General original - I like the white better, but then the sample I had was literally dripping wet and kind of freaked me out. Other original portions I've had were fine, so this may have been a QC or packaging issue. These were from one of those little sampler packets.

Camel mellow - Ran out of the good stuff when my first order was delayed and choked on these for a few days. UGH. Sickeningly, nauseatingly sweet. If the sweetener was dropped to 10% of its current level, I'd like the taste. Also, I found these tinted my teeth bright yellow almost instantly and leaked like a sieve, turning my saliva into a lovely shade of dark brown. I felt like I had a bag of dip in my mouth.. not pleasant. Did I mention the nicotine delivery was incredibly weak? YUCK. The portion shape was really nice, though.

Roda Lacket - Not bad, but kind of weak in the flavor department.

Goat Rape #2 - I like the flavor but this one threatens to turn on me quickly, so it's more of an occasional thing.

General Onyx - WOO! These taste so good I want to EAT THEM. Better on the nicotine, too.

Gotland Green - I like the flavor, even the bitterness, but the portion bags (or maybe the shape or fatness) makes my lip cry for mercy.

Oden's Classic - Though far from expiration, the tin I got was very dry. Moistened, these taste pretty good but the portion material is very uncomfortable.

Oden's Kanel ES - These were much moister. They smell like cat piss but taste pretty good. Lovely nicotine kick, especially first thing in the morning. Too bad the portion material is cardboardy and abrasive.

02 - Love, love, love the portion shape. Tastes okay, nice and neutral, nothing offensive about it... less drip, which is handy too, especially when I might not have a drink available. Nice, steady amount of nicotine.

Oomph (6mg), Licorice/Lemon and Citrus/Menthol - These are interesting little buggers. I can taste the baking soda.. kind of toothpasty, but I don't mind. The tiny size makes them perfect for public use. Nic hit on these is kind of weird... almost harsh but somehow less satisfying. My husband likes them a lot.

Probe Whiskey - Tasty! If I want a sweet snus, this is much closer to what I'd aim for than Camel's syrup-flavored snus. My husband and I both like these. Reminds me of rum cake, heh. Great for an occasional treat.

Claq Qui - Now THIS is what I was hoping for with the Roda Lacket. Rich, smooth, dried-fruity and about the perfect level of nicotine when I need a bit of a boost over a regular portion. Love it.

Sounds like you're having fun. I am, too.

It's good that you wrote this. I suspect you're going to enjoy going back and reading this in, say, six months. I'm still noobin' it up, too, but I feel a lot of what you say. I come from smoking myself, and I have definitely enjoyed stronger portions more, but I'm starting to work more of the regulars in (I tell myself).

WRT the Röda Lacket, it's very flirty. It has a wonderful taste but the white portion only teases with it (so far it seems to me). I find it's worth it to keep at it. The Claq is very nice, though, when I don't feel like being teased.

Speaking of portions, I pinched a little bit of the Röda lös last night, and it was heavenly. It's just such a nice flavor. You might never get into lös, but you seem to be the curious type, and there are so many more doors just waiting to open there. This LD lös I have in right now is pretty dynamite. I'm dying waiting for the portions I ordered to arrive so I can try them!

I may pick up a tin of Roda Lacket los. I can't imagine that I would go los full-time -- convenience is a big deal for me -- but I'm certainly not opposed to trying it.

Actually, curiosity got the better of me earlier when I was ordering from SnusCentral and I threw in a random ("Bag o' Snus") can of loose just for the hell of it. Why not?

Arriving tomorrow (hopefully).. ordered before I received the first order:
General white sampler (General White, Goat Rape, Grov, Roda Lacket)
        Grov Black
        Offroad Cranberry (requested by hubby)
Gotland yellow (I'm going to regret this, those portion bags suck)
        Mystery can

        Arriving early next week:
General Ekstra Sterk x2 (need something stout for morning, but without the cardboardy Oden's portion bag)
        Nick & Johnny
        Skruf Stark White
        Skruf Cranberry
        Mystery can

Arriving in a week or two (SnusCentral):
2x Probe Whiskey (hubby wants more of this)
        2x 02 (I want more of this)
5x Bag o' Snus, mini (hubby likes flavored minis, LOL)
1x Bag o' Snus, loose (impulse purchase! :P)

Cool cool cool. My first "sizable" purchase was a mixed roll from Buysnus. It was a good move.

I *love* General ES. I think I might even like the portions better than the lös. Not sure, though, they both rock.

I really think you're gonna like the Nick & Johnny, too. It seems to flavor up right away, and I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I think I'm almost as hooked on ordering/waiting for packages as I am on the snus. It's kind of a problem. I've even got a little freezer picked out just for snus, since mine is about crammed full.

Grov white and Nick & Johnny are on the way. I'll order the rest of this list in a few days, got a payment coming through from a regular client on the 15th. Just remembered I should have picked up another tin or two of General Wintergreen... I'm beginning to miss those burny little bastards.

Eww, I hate mint anything snus.

The Nick & Johnny was an old favorite here. Doesn't get as much air time with all the newbie sterks that came in. But really, really good. Flavor just on the edge of too strong for me, so only use about once a month now

Oddly enough, me too. Peppermint = blech. Spearmint = OMFG blech.. especially those Emerald Ice Discreet.. ugh.

Wintergreen doesn't really register as "mint" to me for some reason. I love the smell of wintergreen and love the sizzle on my gums.

                  But I'm weird :P

When I decided to snus I figured the minty flavors would be the ones that are "safe." But the more brands/flavors i try, I tend to like the mints less and less. And usually will use them when the stock is low in the fridge.

                      Quick question:

So I've got a few cans here (and a couple more on the way) with godawful abrasive portion bag material but that I otherwise like quite a lot.

I could maybe reportion it into some other packets but I'm picky as hell about the material and doubt I could find anything as nice as the silky smooth pouches Swedish Match products come in.

Instead, I'm considering emptying out the bags and seeing if I can "convert it" into los. I have some USP glycerin (food grade vegetable glycerol) that I use to mix e-liquid with, and I'm pretty sure this what they use to make los "sticky"... of course, there are undoubtedly other things like a different grind/etc.

Has anyone tried turning portions into los? Did it work?

Some have tried, not usually, but you seem more intent than most.

My best advice is just be patient with the portions. Funny thing for me at least, longer I used, less I ever noticed.

I tend to tinker a lot... I did a lot of this with my e-cig. You should see the Frankenstein devices and modded cartomizers and bizarre flavored e-liquids I've made, haha. Right now I'm puffing on an e-cig made with parts from four different models and loaded with my homebrew cinnamon-clove nicotine liquid...

I think I'll give portion to los a shot just for shits and giggles later tonight, using just a small amount (a couple of portions worth) and see what happens. If it doesn't go well, I'll just put the rest into the freezer. Perhaps my gums will toughen up a bit after a few more months.

I'm not crazy over mint, myself, especially in snus, as it turns out. I won't say I hate it, but I definitely don't prefer it.

General Wintergreen hit me about the same way as Karanya. I got a can in the mixed roll, used it up, and a few days later started craving it. I would probably have ordered another can, but Getsnus sent me one as mystery can. I think I've had maybe two portions of it and there it sits.

Discreet (strawberry, peach, orange, grape, apple, pear, emerald ice, cool mint) - My favorites are the unreleased ones, grape and orange are fabulous, and root beer is top notch.

General white portion - One of my two favorites in the world of bergamot.

General wintergreen - Def not one I like, but people who come from dip to snus seem to like it. If you enjoy it, I hear Thunder Wintergreen is a good one for those who like Wintergreen. I don't like Wintergreen, but I can tolerate the Thunder one.

General original - Have yet to try

Camel mellow - Guilty Pleasure! I keep a can in stock. I use it from time to time. It has a mild flavor, it's rather nice. Unlike it's ugly brother Frost.

Roda Lacket - I like its rather mild, fruity flavor. It's very subtle in all aspects.

Goat Rape #2 - I picked up the same thing - a threat to turn, I use it quite rarely.

General Onyx - Great flavor, strong in all aspects. An occasional for me.

Gotland Green - This is very good. I love the mild, earthy flavor. If you like this, I suggest trying 0102 line, the flavors have mild hints that hearken back to Gotland's Green

Oden's Classic - Very tasty. I like the ES more.

Oden's Kanel ES - You called these cat piss? haha, that's something I hear about Elixyr alot, and I love Elixyr. (thanks Sage)

02 - Oh. Here it is. Glad you tried it. It's an occasional for me, at least once a day.

Oomph (6mg), Couldn't stand it. Dried dirt powder snus. Try Elixyr. Much better.

Probe Whiskey - This is very good. Great flavor.

Claq Qui - Have only tried 1 portion, and didn't enjoy it enough to go back.

Elixyr Energy (a few people here swear by it, Sage got me turned onto it and I use it everyday for that wakeup call I need.)
