New Snus user. Need some help...

    Hi guys,

I am new to snus. Been sampling for about a month now. I am an ex Skoal mint user of about 10 years and am trying to find something to replace it. Preferably loose. I really don't like the feel of the bag with portioned snus. Too much like having a chunk of paper towel stuffed in my lip. Kinda have an aversion to it.

My habit is to dip once or twice during the day then I can go through nearly a can in 4-6 hours once I am home. Much of this while drinking a few beers watching T.V. and screwing around online..

I am having trouble finding a really strongly flavored snus that can compete with the beer flavor. With the Skoal this was not a problem but I find the mellow taste of most snus unable to stand up.

So far I have tried nearly all of the los snus from getsnus.com and have been most happy with Skruf Stark or the General original or ES. These so far have had the strongest flavor.

Aside from those two here is what I have tried so far:

Gotlandssnus yellow- Way to mellow. Didn't like the citris notes.

Gotlandssnus Anis- Yuk. Just yuk. Hated the anis flavor. Thank God this was free. I threw it away.

    Grovsnus- Was ok.

Odens ES- Flavor was ok. Didn't like the consistency. Also, I was double dipping this for a few hours and ended hurling in the toilet about 5 times. Yeah, Like I was 13 and chewing the first time. This has kinda ruined the flavor of this snus for me My fault.

Offroad Original- At first I loved this one. Subtle tea flavors I really lliked. Almost sweet smelling. Ok texture. Thought I would be ordering a sleeve of this. Oddly enough about halfway through the can I couldn't stand it anymore. Something about the flavor really turned on me.

So while I was a Skoal Mint junkie, when it comes to snus I seem to be gravitating towards strong tobacco flavors rather than mint or otherwise flavored varieties.

So, can anyone suggest a few brands with a really strong tobacco flavor? Doesn't have to be an extra strong variety, just BOLD.

    Thanks guys.

    Welcome to flyguy

My best advice is to just keep using, and let the more mellow taste of snus win you over. That is a very common thing here. Ultimately, no snus can compete with the "slap you in the face" flavor I have learned is common with American smokeless.

Try Probe los. VERY sweet, but as an American smokeless guy, I am sure that is not an issue. But about the strongest flavor I know.

I am not a los guy, so will let others make suggestions. but welcome, and keep asking any questions.

Oh yea, and Snusdog will be here to guide you all the way. If Sage is the official "ex smoker" portion guy, Sunsdog is the official "ex dipper" los guy.

Keep sampling. Snus is cheap, so you can try as much as you want and it won't break the bank

Everyone's taste is unique, and in time you will develop one of your own.

Thunder Frosted packs a nice kick

and the new 02 has a decent but short lived punch(stoped feeling the nic after 30sih minutes frosted drops at around an hour)

Check out the dippers guide to snus in the tips and tricks section. Lots of good info in there - Snusdog really nailed it.

I am going through the switch (I started dipping to quit smoking) from dipping to snus for the second time because the first time I wasn't patient with the flavor and getting into the new rituals.

General los is my favorite but every one is different so you have to find the one that you like.

                      Good luck!

                      Mike

I think you're looking in the wrong place. You won't find a real snus that competes with dip for flavor. They're all subtle, especially the plain tobacco varieties. If you haven't done so, I suggest quitting dip completely for awhile, and see if your taste buds wake up. No snus will match up to that, and if you keep dipping, that'll be the benchmark to beat.

A couple of people suggested LD, but if you don't like citrus, that may not be for you. It's one of my favorites, but I like citrus snus. Grov is the strongest plain tobacco flavor, it won't get any stronger than that. You may like Göteborgs Rapé if you like the flavor of gin. My only suggestion is to keep at it, and go back to the brands you've rejected. You may find yourself liking them better. Also, don't compare snus with dip. They're really nothing alike, and you won't find a suitable clone. It's kind of like a hardcore cigar smoker switching to cigarettes, and looking for one that reminds of his favorite cigar, it just doesn't exist.

                        Btw, welcome to SnusOn :^)

                          Welcome to SnusOn!

Lot's of great advice in this thread so far.

The one's you like are some of my favorites. I would suggest Grov, Probe, Ettan, knox, gustuvas, kronan, and give the Oden's ES another try with the Kanel.

The best suggestion I can give you is General Maxi Portion. Seems to taste stronger and drip more than anything...IMHO. Its my choice for drinking adult beverages.
